Default Exhaust Cut-outs

I have an LS1 2001 Trans Am and have bought cut-outs for it. I have not put them on just yet. I have been planning on putting them before my cats. I know that my top end will increase and that some of my torque will be lost. My question is does anyone know if my quarter mile times will still improve, or will too much torque be jeopardized and force me to go nowhere? Does anyone know about how much torque will be lost? Any suggestions or thoughts? Thanks for the help.

I think you are going to find that fit a little tight. Distance between the manifold and the cats is only a few inches. You may also have some issues with your O2 sensor location.

Put them on right before your muffler. That's the best way to do it.

There's no room for cutouts before the cats. Put one right before muffler in front of the axle, pointed the the passenger side. workks great there.

They will fit before the cats, and work well there. I did it with my '98. It's very loud and a trace track/dyno only type thing. It will help performance.

Terry on the 2001s the passenger side cat is pretty much snug up against the manifold and the O2 bung is in that space and not on the manifold.

Not saying can't be done. But I think it would pretty much take a custom cut out and not an off the shelf one.

Hmmm ... but you got me thinking now, since I'm running !cats ... maybe just move my cut out(s) up in front to the y-pipe??

Other than being nice and loud, wonder what that would gain me ... maybe if I can't beat you and Scott, I can try and scare you or make you deaf

I still have stock manifolds and y-pipe. No room for a cut out on the driverside before the cat. If you have headers and or a aftermarket y-pipe it will work. I'll be removing my cats soon though. If I remember correctly from the pictures he posted, Mr. Burger has a pretty inpressive exhaust system.

Hey Norm I have a cutout on my car .. I have only seen a few more Hp on the dyno but at the track you will see an improvement in ET and MPH. Also for the lazy people you can go with one of these www.quicktimeperformance.com/qtec.htm . To this day I think the cutout is the best mod for the money, for 35 bucks you can pick up some good ET and MPH

Do I need to buy two cut-outs in order for me to take full advantage of my power, or is one sufficient? Thanks.

IMO, the cutout under the passenger seat transforms the interior of the car into a huge defective woofer! Installing it at the right-angle bend into the muffler adds negligible loss and makes the noise level far more tractable, with the additional benefit that should you need to cap the exhaust, you don't have to put the car on a lift or crawl under it.
Definite tushy-dyno improvement!
besides, it kinda looks cool to have 3 exhaust pipes. You could even do a poor-man's Borla, wherein you slap on plates with various sized orifices to get the sound JUST right!

I don't mind the sound so much since I intend to only use the cut-outs during racing or g-tech trials.

Anyone have any problems with attracting scrutiny from law enforcement with an open cut out with stock headers + cats? I'm from cali here.. cops might be a little more stringent when it comes to noise.

I just had it welded on Saturday, sounds mean as hell.

I dyno'd this weekend and found that the cutout gave me ~ 8-10 RWHP. It does hurt tq below 4K rpms, but only about 5-7ft/lbs. I have mine mounted under passenger seat dumping out in front of the RR tire. Best mod I've done to date.

Cops don't bother with loud cars here in florida, at least not in central florida. If they did all the ricers with fart cannons would be in jail? I'm sure a place like Cali. with all the emmision laws it would be a little bit harder to get away with.
