Default MACS.....in from the bottom or in from the top.

I've read so many posts by searching and everyone says something different. I have a 98 and don't wish to start grinding stuff off the block. Are there a lot of you who managed to install them from the top?

I have a 1998 and installed them from the top with ease. The passenger side was a little harder to get through but it did.

If you take the oil filter off, the driver's side with slide right in through the bottom. The pass. side will only go in through the top. I have installed about 10 sets of Mac headers, and done them all this same exact way...

I did the driver side from the top with the valve covers off and the passenger side from the bottom. They both went in easy the passenger side was the easiest side.

From the top. They could go in from the bottom but grinding would be neccessary on the passenger side and the oil filter would have to be removed on the drivers side.

I found the top to be the quickest way to go.

Ditto. All 5 sets I have done has been this way. You may have to pry the motor over some w/ a pry bar to get a little extra clearance. Nothing too hard though.

I did Both Sides From the Bottom and NO grinding needed. Just unbolted the Starter and the Eng. mount. Raisd it right side up a hair and slid it in. Not that the top wouldnt have worked i guess i just didnt try that.

Well I am still not sure on how I am going to tackle this. There seems to be a lot of disagreement as to what will and what won't work and what is the best approach. I think I will try from the top first but after hearing all this, I am not sure that is the easiset way!!

I did mine from the bottom but I'd probably take these guys recommendations first. It probably is easier from the top, just stating how I did mine. I did have to cut the casting blocks off to get em in, but only took a second with the dremel and it's not hurting anything. I just didn't know about the top method at the time.

GGUUUUUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! You guys are scaring me about putting headers on my car!!!!!! I have access to a rack and I could use it easily and do them from the bottom..... you guys say it is easier from the top but isn't it a pain in the *** to take off the valve covers and all that $hit??????

I looked at mine today and I would vote for Bottom. If you had access to a lift as I do.

It's simple to remove the coil packs and valve covers. I think the coil pack rails have 5 bolts on them. Takes 10 minutes a side taking your time.
