No one seems to mention that you can have the side exit with the tips hidden. Just dump them before they can be seen. Then the haters have nothing to complain about as it can't be seen, but you still get the tidy exhaust and the cool sound. That's what I was going to do initially and them work on some tips to make it look good, but I may just skip the visable tips. I still have have my non-functional tips mounted in the back so people (cops) won't get suspicious.

I just did a super makeshift side mount on my 3.4. I live in fl so dnt really have to worry about anything.cut off the cat n used sum cheap autozone flex pipe, a "thrush" glasspack , and one piece of my old exhaust that was alreadly bent lol. i used a z28 tip and for a stock v6 it sounds pretty mean.it took me 4 days to figure out placement and clearance. now that its the way i want it , im going to get sum real piping from jegs or sumthin and have my buddy weld it all up.i love the look of side mount especially on 4th gens since u dnt see much of it .

Here's the side exhaust I ran on my ls1 swap. I only bottomed out over huge speed bumps. lowered a tad.

exhaust is just straight pipe. I welded the the pipes straight to the car and hooked it up with a flex piece.
