Walbro 255lph intank install questions?
Hiyas,
The fuel pump in my 1998 was making loud whining noises, so I purchased a 255lph intank. The performance shop I bought it from struck me as "shady", wants to charge me four to six hours to install because apparently, to put it in, there are some modifications that need to be done to the tank.
Am I being taken for a ride? Anybody know what they're talking about?

No there is no modifications that have to be done. But yet it takes a long time because you have to lower the axle, take off the muffler, lower the tank, get that pump out of there. You only have to cut the plastic box that's holding the pump. I did it once with a friend. It's not hard at all. Few hours yes. No mods though except cutting that plastic box. 4 hours sounds about right if you go snail pace, which most shops do. We weren't in a hurry at all so we went slow. Took probably 4-6 hours. But we went really slow.

It's an easy job but you have to pay attention to where the fuel lines run initially or mark them. We only dropped the axle and removed muffler and heat shielding. The gas tank sits at an angle and it's a tight squeeze to get your head in there and pull the fuel pump. Getting it back in the tank can be a challenge as well. We did not modify the bracket - just pulled out the stock one and put the new one on. I took 2 tie-wraps and snugged it to the bracket. It worked fine. I've done 3 fuel pumps this way. The best price I've found for the 255 Walboro is from Mustang's Unlimited.
Good Luck,
Eric
Make sure the gas tank is as empty as possible - Since I was changing the pump anyways we just ran it until it was really, really low. Before you bolt the tank back up, start the car and make sure everything works fine. Bolting the tank up is IMO the hardest part of the job.

Man mine was way easier than that. I took off my catback....dropped the drivers side bolts for the panhard bar...took off the heat shield....undo the 10mm bolt holding the filler neck ....2 bolts hold the tank and down she comes. Now the 2000 has a flexible filler neck and this may be why its so much easier. Also, my catback can be taken apart right at the over axle pipe. If you have a hooker catback and a flexible filler neck....its a simple job.
