Default Starter bolt question

Is there a replacement starter bolt that has a 13 or 14mm head instead of the 15mm head?

Thanks

John

Yes, my starter bolts have a 15mm head. Are you sure that your's are 13mm?

The reason I ask is that it is very hard to get a 15mm socket on the head of the long starter bolt. The black plastic access plate to the torque converter and the bolt head are too close together. A 13mm bolt head would make things a lot easer. I will check with the local dealer and see if I can get a 13 or 14mm bolt.

Thanks

Hey John,

That black plastic piece costs about $3 at the Chevy dealership. So if push comes to shove, they can order you a new one. They did for me.

I found that if I'd have backed the tranny off about 1/16" without removing the starter, I would have been able to get a socket on that bolt and then pull it. But me, I used primal instinct on removal of that bolt. Bust the plastic plate, put the socket on.

Andrew,

That sounds like me. I ended up tapping the socket on with a hammer. Loosing up the transmission bolt sounds like a good idea. I will try that when I re-install the starter.

Thanks

FYI --> The '98 model year cars had starter bolts with 15mm heads. The '99+ cars had starter bolts with 13mm heads.

Thanks Jason. I was hoping that was the case.
