So if anyone else has an LS1 with engine problems at was not due to mechanical over rev. be sure to voice your concern
Maybe we could get Marvin to raise some hell for us too!
at any rate, would there be any potential problems if there were overboard cylinders? my cars running really nice and i dont want to start over with a slow engine

I do not have this problem but have you guys tried to use a scan tool durring the sound? Wouldnt the K.S. pick up any sort of internal noise and register it as a knock? I know on my old tpi motor that stupid thing will pick up something that I sure couldnt hear and call it knock. Just a thought.

I will buy them all day long for that and use them in my car....
The GM guy's call it cold start tick and have had to replace the whole entire ls1motors for upset customers who complained about the noise. I know because I bought one entire ls1 motor for 600.00. It was a warranty motor because someone complained about the cold start tick (PISTON SLAP) deal....

I get the cold start piston slap. Mine is really weird though, in that it won’t do it right away. But right about 120 deg (coolant temp) or half way warmed up it will start to do it, then once it fully warms up the noise goes away. Or, if I start driving it before it stops, then just bringing the revs up to move the car (3500 stall ) will make the noise vanish and not return when dropping back to idle. I see no movement at all in the oil pressure gauge when this noise happens.

My 2000 does exactly the same thing, except it maybe starts a little sooner temp-wise. If I drive up our road to the stop sign (20 seconds), the noise is gone. This started around 2K miles. I should say it _did_ do this, since lately the noise has not appeared - I don't think I've heard it since the last oil change, where I used 1/2 10W30 synthetic and 1/2 5W30 dino oil. The other thing about this noise is I'm pretty sure it's not piston slap, since I've also heard that sometimes (but not most of the time) after a cold start, and that's a different sound, more muted and hollow sounding.
