Default Corsa Exhaust?????

Im really thinking about getting one. I hear they are great. Can they be installed by just jacking the rear end up? Also, can you just use clamps? I was thinking of saving labor and installing myself if thats possible, Then use clamps until im ready to have it welded. Also, Is the stock unit welded and need cut? or does it come with clamps.

Thanks for all the help, If I cant do it alone, Ill call around some different muffler shops and this custom f-body shop I know of.

Thanks

MTI installed my Corsa back around Thanksgiving, it is clamped, no welding involved. So far, no leaks or rattles, didn't even have to go back for the requisite retorque. I seem to recall someone on the board mentioning that MTI uses their own clamps which are suppose to be superior to the ones in the box, that is hearsay, don't take it as fact. Bottom line is I'm happy, nice throaty growl at idle and will wake the dead at WOT.

The old exhaust is clamped right after the collector in the y-pipe, the rest of the stock catback is welded. To remove the old exhaust it is necessary to either cut part of the exhaust out or to diassemble the passenger side of the rear suspension and slide the unit out as a whole. I would just cut the pipes because all that work, just to keep the exhaust in one piece, seems silly.
If you do it yourself I would recommend having air tools (for rusty bolts, etc.), a saw-zall (for cutting old exhaust), and person to help. Also, a jack or ramps makes the job MUCH easier. I really don't think its necessary to weld the new catback, the clamps will work just fine.

If you have the tools listed above the job should take about 45 minutes - 2 hours

Have fun

MTI installed my Corsa, so I do not know the specifics of how exactly it can be done. I do want to say though that the Corsa exhaust is one of the best looking and sounding exhausts, and probably has the highest quality of any of the catbacks. It is not cheap, though, which is sometimes a big mitigating factor for people.

If you can afford it and want one of the best sounding/looking/quality exhausts, go for it. Mine sounds fantastic with Dynatechs and off-roads.

I've been waiting for some nice weeather to install mine. It looks freakin amazing and I heard the Corsa in person last year on a 2000 Vette - it sounded absolutely perfect. A nice low and mellow rumble at idle but quiet enough to not get annoying. When he revved the engine it sounded deep and smooth. THe tips are the best around. I may try to install mine this weekend - if not, next weekend - I'll try to post how it goes. Maybe if I am ambitious enough I'll take digital pics of the install.

regards,
Mitch R.

Took me an hour to install mine on jacks.
1st cut off old exhaust with sawzall, right near the axle.Takes a couple minutes.
2nd Install Corsa loosly,so you can adjust it for clearences.
3rd clamp it up.

I wouldn't weld it unless it is absolutely necessary. The stock clamps work great and you can take it off if you have to.

I've got the Corsa with FLP LT headers, I would have to agree with Z2802 at idle it has a rich, deep sound and at WOT it will definitely wake the dead. I thought it would be a little more quite going down the road, it does have quite a rumble at anything other than cruise. You can definitely hear it in the car. The tips do look sweeet.

Everything you need comes with it.

Took me 2 hrs to install by myself and thats includes 20 trips to the tool box..lol

I would get a 5" C-clamp to help put the pipes together. They aren't perfectly round and you might have to squeeze one a little to get them to slip together.

You can hear it while cruising in the car, BUT there is no drone. In otherwords, you won't get a headache from it like most(all) other catbacks.

I would definately recommend getting a Corsa.

The only thing stopping me from buying one now is my wife. I have convinced her to read this thread, so please give some feedback as to why I need to change out my stock exhaust for the Corsa. I know its one of the better exhausts, now PLEASE convince her...........

Thank you for all feedback and reassurance to her...

Dear Mrs. 99T/A,

Your hubby obviously has impechable taste or he wouldn't be driving one of the hottest rods of all time. Now using this same reasoning would explain why HE picked you and we all know that any self respecting hottie wouldn't want to be seen in a rod with a lame stock exhaust...no one would notice you but If you allow him to purchase the Corsa exhaut also a hot item now both of you could be the center of attention.

BTW, I have to disagree with NASty01 this system does drone...just put headers on it see.
