Default MAC HEADER QUESTION???

I LIVE IN ILLINIOS (SUBURBS OF CHICAGO) AND I WAS WONDERING IF I SHOULD GET MY MAC HEADERS W/ OFFROAD AND Y-PIPE COATED??? IT IS REAL EXPENSIVE LIKE $260 TO GET IT DONE. DO U THINK I WILL BE OKAY IF I DONT GET THEM COATED. I TALKED TO LS1 SPEED AND THEY ARE HAVING A SPECIAL ON THE MACS WITH OFFROADS. $479.99 FOR THE HEADERS AND OFFROADS, I FIGURE THAT PLUS THE O2 SENSORS WHICH ARE $69.99 WHEN U BUY THEM WITH THE HEADERS SO IT WILL END UP BEING $550. ALSO I WANTED TO KNOW HOW HARD THEY ARE TO INSTALL?? LS1 SPEED QUOTED ME $275 TO INSTALL THEM. I THINK I WILL DO IT MYSELF, BUT I DONT KNOW, I WANT IT DONE RIGHT. IF I GET EVERYTHING DONE HEADERS, COATING, INSTALLED, AND THE O2 SIMS THAT COMES OUT TO $1,080. THE PRICE OF LONG TUBES!! I NEED ADVICE!!! WHAT SHOULD I DO??

IMO, if you're going to get a set of Macs I wouldn't bother with coating them. If you drive in the rain a lot, then they will rust. My friend had a set of uncoated Macs on his T/A a few years ago, and they never rusted. However, this car was driven in the rain only once or twice w/ this setup. When I think of Macs, I think of nice, cheap performance. They're is always a demand for them, so you'd have no problem selling them later if you wanted to go with a set of LT's. I'd get them uncoated and be done with it. If you're wanting a coated set, then I'd just spend the extra money on LT's. my $.02 <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

I agree on the no coating. How long do stock manifolds last. Macs are going to have a nice useful life, I'm sure as long as i have my car. Save the $260

One thing you need to be careful of is what year car you have. I have a 98 TA, and I found that there is no f***ing way those passenger headers are coming out from the top without pulling the AC stuff off. Drivers side went in from the top after pulling coil packs and steering linkage, but the passenger side needed to have the right front motor mount busted loose, motor jacked up, and crossmember bolts loose with the crossmember pried down. Took me 7 hours to do the whole ehaust, from headers to tailpipe. If you want, I am in Merrillville, I could help you out if you wanted to come out to where I am at
