Best thermostat??
They all sell decent t-stat's. I run the 160 Hypertech t-stat.

Oil is deveolped for engines running at a certain temp to help keep the engine clean inside, so we are cooling the engine down and puting a bigger fuel load in without much thought to the what it will do the to oil/engine. Dont get me wrong I do the same thing as everyone else but I have started loking at it closer and the mechanics seem to be right when they say I am gumming up my engine by doing it on a daily driver. I am thinking 180 for a daily driver is a smarter way to go and if your headed to the track, change the stat and set the fan when you change the tires and open the cutout. Just an observation from a rookie.

You can just as well go to a hardware store and buy a few small washers and stack a few on each other to make the shim depth you want.
Heck they cost a few pennies each, far cheaper and you have full control of what opening temp you want over those high profit so called custom stock stats with
washers in them :-(

Also (just to make sure!) when you say for example .101 shim, you're talking in inches, correct??
Thanks!

You may want to have different shims for winter, summer and race conditions but I assume most people would just get a stat opening of like 175 degrees and keep it that way.
