Question about Lid on 2002 SS
vanes on the top look like flow-straighteners,
not baffles. They're oriented along airflow
lines anyway. The exit orifice is large and
oval, maybe 2"x5". There is a funky plastic
pod which I make out to be a resonator / air
silencer that the long rubber bellows hose
runs through. The hose necks down from the
2"x5" oval to 3" round at the MAF.
The only thing that looks way not-ideal about
the stock lid, is that there's a little bit
of shrouding of the back portion of the air
filter face. However, on the bottom side of
the air filter (SS cold air hood) there's
only 1/4" or so of clearance, which I'd
reckon is a more significant local restriction.
I guess my question is, does this sound like
the regular stock box, or is it SS-specific,
and is the power gain from a smooth lid to be
expected on the 2002 SS or have design changes
made it less of an advantage?
My other question is, the outlet on the lids
appears like it'd need a very different hose
than what's on there now, but I don't see
mention of that on any of the Lid 'pages. That's
one thing that's making me wonder if my '02 is
somehow changed from "normal" airbox style.
What's the deal with the Lid - MAF hose, does
it come with the lid, or is the lid supposed to
use a stock hose (no-go here)?
