LS6 pcv system installed on my ls1 block!
Nope, once the car left the dealership, it's never seen a shop or dealership. Sad to say, no chance of anyone accidentally droping in a LS6 casting. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
Well, you raised my curiosity. With a mirror and some work, it looks like 12558846. (One of the eights may be a 6, hard to tell)
My car was one of the First LS1 F-bodys ever made. The Vin is 000008 and the Build Date is 4/97! Yes you read that correct....
Wonder what mine has? Whats the difference in the blocks?
Looking at both valley PICs, your block with no ribs is the late 2000- early 2001 style block (LS1) Casting #12560626, or 2001/2002 LS1/LS6 Casting #12561168.
From late 96 to mid 99 GM was usinng block #12550592 (shinny casting finish). Some time mid 99 GM swithced to casting #12559378 which carried through to early 2001 for the LS1 (shinny Casting).
#12560626 was suppose to be a change over casting, (which I beleive is made by the same casting company as the LS6 block) late 2000-early 2001 (block I think you have) (smooth no ribs in valley and no mod needed for LS6 PCV cover)and has a dark gray casting like the LS1/LS6 block #12561168.
#12561168 was used on all 2001-2002 LS6, mid year 2001 and up LS1 cars (F&Y). I believe even the early 2001 Vettes have the LS6 style. early 2001 F bodies are running the 2000 style LS1 block #12559378 or #12560626
John, do you know what your casting number is? Your car has never been in a shop and left un attended (joke)?

Found this picture. I highlighted the areas in red where my block looks identical to the LS6 one on the right. However my block is not dark gray and casting numbers don't match Shaun's but looks just like the one on the right with the valley view.
The mystery continues...
