LS6 pcv system installed on my ls1 block!
I noticed last year my stock 98 LS1 PCV system was leaking oil at the pcv valve, so I tried a vertical pcv mod last year. This helped with the oil leak, but then I discovered the oil was getting back into the intake manifold. I was aware of this after watching a video of my car running at the track and seeing black smoke coming from the exhaust. Also my car seemed to be low on oil more then usual.
This is what I found after pulling off the ls1 intake manifold. Is this much oil normal? I hope not.

I have done the ls6 pcv research, and the only thing I didn't know about was where and how much of the block needed to be trimmed. My friend and I had to cut at least 4 different times to get the ls6 valley to fit inside the ls1 block.
Trimmed the inside of the ls1 block
The only other problem we had with this mod was getting an ls1 intake manifold and the coolant tubes for the heads to work with the new pcv tube coming out of the ls6 valley. My friend got the hammer out and flatten/bend the ls1 coolant tubes some. He also shaved a part of the rib underneath the ls1 intake manifold to allow more room.
LS6 valley with original LS1 heads' coolant tubes slightly modified.
Hopefully this ls6 pcv system is better then the ls1 pcv system. I'll find out when I swap the intake manifold in the future.
BTW, I have '01-'02 LS6 valve covers so I didn't have to worry about covering the old pcv tube sticking out of the '98 f-body valve covers.

Finished LS6 PCV pipe
Got any part numbers needed for the swap (valve covers, valley cover, etc)? What all was needed....just the valley cover? I can dremmel that little bit off no problem
Im gonna do this...ooooh yes. If I do an indepth writeup for this site on this topic, I'll be sure and give you credit for the help this post has given.
I completely removed all stock PCV system components and blocked off the PCV fittings in the valve covers with JB Weld. I made some sheet metal baffles inside the valve covers and installed some fittings to attach a set of standard (1.25" hole) type "PCV breathers." The breathers are hooked up together via 5/8" heater hose to a 5/8" T-fitting, then a single 5/8" hose into my electric crankcase evacuation pump. The outlet of the pump goes into a breather tank which collects all the moisture extracted from the crankcase.
I have been unable to determine if this system helps ring seal or make additional horsepower, but it does most definately remove condensation from the crankcase, and relieve crankcase pressure. I have not been able to see how much (if any) vacuum this setup pulls at high rpm. This is a modified LT1 air pump sold by an outfit in TN that uses this setup on blown BBC powered alcohol dragsters to remove moisture from the crankcase.
Before anyone asks, no I don't have any pictures, nor can I take any since there is no motor in my car right now. I'll be switching to 99-up centerbolt heads with the new motor as well, so I no longer even have the old '98 valve covers that I installed the baffles/fittings in...

For the ls6 pcv system I had most of the parts so hopefully this list is complete.
1) The ls6 pcv tube (12568010)
2) The ls6 valley is 12568002. (This is what I have seen posted.)
3) Gasket for valley (*might be able to reuse the old gasket)
4) bolts (*should be useable)
5) Cover your old pcv tubes from the valve covers or get ls6 valve covers.

That's your 98 valley?
My 98 didn't look like that. The LS6 valley cover on mine just dropped right in. No modification needed.
Hmm, wonder when GM changed engine design castings. Mid year? Mines a March/April 98.
I'll find the pictures and post them.

what does the bottom of the valley cover look like to need this piece 'clearanced' like that? i'd think it be flat.

interesting, mine looks like the first one. so i'll have to cut to get the valley cover to work.. bummer I really dont want to chop it.

Thats a ZO6 style block that was not used until 01. My buddy's 00 was not smooth inside, nor is my 00. Valvegod specifically told me that the newer block was not used until 01, and he sells used engines. Strange
As example, early LS1 blocks have the bolt hole locations in them for the timing chain tensioner which was originally designed but scrapped before production.
i take it the black thing is an oil screen/separator? YES
what did it look like before you cut on the middle piece? We only shaved on the corners since my friend thought it was hitting the bottom part. Valvegod?

I simply posted Valvegod? in hopes that he would see this.
What do you guys have for block casting #'s on those blocks? (Located on drivers side on block just below the head facing the fire wall)
