Default Is GMMG too loud???

Is the GMMG system too loud on a A4 with a Vig. 3600 and FLP headers with cats? I have a Borla system now with the medium plate installed. Does the GMMG exhaust flow as much as the Borla wide open? And is it more quiet than the Borla wide open??

The only way for you to really know is to hear it yourself...I think it is the perfect volume...others think it is ridiculously loud.

depends on what you think is loud! I have LT's and OR-Y and i think it is pretty loud. Wouldn't trade it for another combo though. I have gotten a ton of compliments on it! and with cats it should be tamer so i think it would be fine! (i might be putting cats on mine just to get a little bit smoother sound)

I've had both the Borla & GMMG and the GMMG is just about as loud as the Borla at WOT. Of course my car has stock manifolds & cats as well as the stock converter.

Oh, one more thing...The GMMG sounds way better than the Borla does! A lot deeper and no rasp.

How does the GMMG compare to the LoudMouth?

Go to the GMMG website, they have some sound/video clips of Berger SS's, Blackbirds, etc with their exhaust, music to my ears . I was also at Bristol Bash this past year where Chuck Hansen and Joe(whatever his last name is) raced two identical Blackbirds, they sounded great going down the track. Joe lost too, guess he should stick to the art shows I saw him in one day .

Long time listener, first time caller.

I appreciate everyone's input; I've learned quite a lot from the posts on this site. Almost two weeks ago, I took delivery of an '02 Z28 (my third Camaro to date, the other's were '73RS and '89 IROC) and have put some of that knowledge to good use.

I agree that the GMMG sounds great from what I've heard when watching .mpg files or listening to .wav files. I'm also not too concerned with the horsepower difference between this and any other brand. A few horsepower here and there is just for bragging rights. It's what you do with it that counts. Personally, I'm stuck between the GMMG unit and the B&B. My only concern would be drone inside the car. Is it (the GMMG) any worse than any other cat-back? Do you have to turn up the radio just to hear it or yell at a passenger so they can hear you? I'm going to have a child riding in the back and although I like the sound of the GMMG, I don't want him to suffer. Yes, I've thought about buying earplugs or aviation headphones for the little one. Unfortunately, my girl friend didn't much care for that idea. Go figure.

Norrie,

If you are concerned about your childs hearing then you need to keep the exhaust stock. I have a 99T/A with FLP LT's/ORP's thru a 3" Flowmaster collector and a 18" bullet with a Corsa behind it and it scares the hell out of my kids and some adults. It's loud but the tone is real low with a nice rumble at idle, at WOT it will wake the dead. Kids come first if they are in the car.

Norrie,

I have a GMMG and with the stock manifolds and cats it is not very loud. My 3 year old rides in the back and it is not loud (kids always come first). We talk and neither of us come even close to yelling.

I'm sure this system would be loud with headers and off-roads. With cats in it will not be that loud. It rumbles nice

My A4 is stock with the exception of the GMMG, and the idle volume and cruising volume (inside the car) is stock for all intents and purposes. It has a nice growl at medium to heavy acceleration, but other than that it is very tame. It makes a bit of low frequency noise on cold starts which rattles my garage a bit, but after idleling for 5 minutes it is as quiet as stock. I actually would have prefered a bit more volume, but it is nice to have the option to be stealthy, especially around any cops.
Regards,

I have had BOTH B&B triflo and the GMMG. They are both IMO the best exhasuts out there. They will both introduce a little bit of drone as with ANY aftermarket exhaust. The GMMG is slightly more than the B&B but the GMMG has just so much more growl and ***** to it!

When you get on it the GMMG is louder inside but it goes back to normal once you are cruising. hope it helps. you won't be dissapointed with either one.

The LM sounds a lot like a cutout while the GMMG has a wondefuly deep tuned note to it at WOT.

Thanks to everyone for their input. I figured that just about all exhausts create some drone inside the car; I was just hoping (praying) that the GMMG wasn't any worse. I'll probably be ordering mine here shortly. Does/has anyone heard of a GP on the GMMG? I believe that I read a while back that someone was attempting to create one but it didn't seem as though it panned out. Again, thanks to everyone for your responses.

I play with mine, when I put the cap on my 3"cut out...but I like the sound of the car with the cut out open....Specially with the T1 cam in the engine, you could here the lobe through the mac headers and off/y-pipe with the cut out open, its loud at WOT, but I can coast with a much lower tone, of course not stepping on quick but gradually increasing the speed...It wakes up the dead......but when closed still sounds good, I have a flowmasters and stock tips...its a sleeper to me...I like the sound with it open and alot of people like it, but sometimes I just close ..when I am driving downtown in a enclosed area.....I'd try a setup where you can change the sound when you are out to race...plus will flow better...
