You want the tip of the outside (ground) electrode pointing down toward the piston. As long as they are within a 90 degree downward arc you will get the benefits of indexing.

Wrap a piece of masking tape around the plug socket, make a mark 180 degrees opposite the tip of the outside electrode. Line the mark up so that it points upward when torqued. Trial and error.
