Default Headers dilemma...which ones,what kind...

I have been thinking about doing complete exhaust including headers, y-pipe,high flow cats, etc. I already have the Flows cat-back, but want something more and a little louder. It is also a daily driver so I don't think I want to go LTs. I have a couple of questions though. Am I right in saying that if you don't have cats then you have an off-road pipe, which don't use cats? I need my car to be emmisions legal and not have to worry about crap from cops or anything. Also , what is an ORY or ORP, I've seen this a number of times but have no clue as to what this is? Also, can I still use my exhaust from the Flowmaster cat-back and will it sound OK if I do? Money isn't too much of an issue, I just want to make sure I get good quality stuff.
Sorry for all the questions, I just want to make sure I know everything before doing this and not regret any thing. Another thing, I'm not planning on making my car a monster at the strip, as it is a daily driver and I need dependability. Thankx for all help.

I’m really liking the Bassani’s these days. Nice install, great quality, no ground clearance issues. I would not use the Catco cats that come with them though. Buy the off-road Y-pipe (ORY, ORP), and if you must have cats then get RTs or CSs welded in. I personally don’t like cats. I only use them for emissions, then they come right back off. You can buy some headers with ORPs (off-road pipes) and cats just for this purpose. You could have a Y-pipe made with cats just for emissions, then take it back off afterward. As long as you have a set of ramps, pulling them on and off is no big deal.

FLP, SLP, TTS, Grott, Hooker, these are all LTs (long tubes)
Bassani, Mac, these are mid length
JBA, Hooker shorties, these are shorty headers and are pretty much a waste of money in most peoples’ eyes.

The FLPs are long tubes, come with both cats and an off road Y, and tuck up very close to the floorboard for better than stock ground clearance.

Problems with them include having trouble getting the oil plug out (without grinding it a bit, or maybe you can get it out with a wrench but not a ratchet), they tuck so close to the floor board many people have the Y pipe bumping the floorboard after shifts (this can be remedied), and the V-clamps they use to secure the cats or straight pipes in the Y pipe sometimes scrap over speedbumps and need replacing.
