Bassani Header- WTF? (Cartek Dyno)
On 2/23/02, I had my car dyno'ed at Cartek-
(SLP Lid & Magnaflow Catback)
318.4 HP, 329.5 TQ
Added Bassani Headers w/ Bassani Cat's & Y-pipe, had car dyno'ed again at Cartek:
322.2 HP, 332.7 TQ
That comes to a whopping 3.8 HP, or approximately $460.00 per each hp!
Needless to say, I'm not a happy camper.
I contacted Bassani and they offered to do the right thing and gave me a return authorization.. and I'm in a pickle because I already spent $475.00 for Cartek to do the install of the headers.
I really don't want to pay Cartek again for a full install, but I also don't want have nice looking headers that don't help my car substantially.
As it is, I had to return to Cartek for some problems with the initial install (loose plug wire & exhaust leak) and will have to again return to Cartek to either:
1) Fix Bassani's (exhaust leak and/or loose plug wire) and then stay with them.
2) Lay out another $300.00 for FLP's plus whatever Julio at Cartek decides I should pay to remove the problematic Bassani's (which will probably be necessary anyway to replace leaking gasket) and replace with FLP's.
I'm really tormented over this crap.. any recommendations?????

In a way, I am glad that you checked in with your results, I was looking last week for anyone that had them and what they were worth power wise over the Mac's. I didn't think I would hear this kind of report back. All I can say is I am very sorry to hear the out come of these headers. Are they a mid length? or shorties? Did you have a good AF on the dyno after the install? I wish you the best of luck reaching your new decision.

It’s the Bassani cats! They are 100% GARBAGE!!! They are made by catco, and you’d be better off to jam two house cats into your tailpipes than these POS. I used a Catco once on and old Formula I had and the car ran faster with the clogged stock cat than the catco.
The Bassani’s will make good power with and ORY or better cats. We just installed a set on one of my club cars. The car is an ’01 M6 SS and with only the Bassani’s w/ ORY, SLP air lid, and loudmouth catback it dyno’ed 347rwhp @5400 and 361rwtq @4500. Unfortunately, we did not do a before and after dyno, but if the Bassani’s were no good, I doubt he would have gotten these numbers.
I am very impressed with the quality of the headers themselves, and I plan to order a set for my car soon. The key here is, DON’T GET THE CATS!!!

I dont know about the long tubes, but i know that when i added my mac's with ory-pipe, i gained 24RWHP and 27RWTQ on the dyno. i have been very pleased with the mod.. but when i put the mac's on, they had just came out and long tubes were not even an option at the time!! but i have no regrets with this setup!!

I'm very interested in the Bassani's because I have heard they fit really well and due to the mid-length design won't be a hassle as far as ground clearance goes. I'm hoping this is not indicative of all results we will see. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" />

One thing you guys haven't mentioned, which is paramount after ANY header install, is proper tuning!! I know there's a plug issue and/or exhaust leak but you have to dial in your Long Term FT's as well as O2's. Have you A-tapped the car? Are you using a MAFT? Who knows, without that exhaust leak and plug arc issue, with proper tuning your car could potentially see the power you were originally hoping for.

All of these issues would cause a lower than expected result. Also, it is not a good idea to compare dyno results from 2 days with such differing weather conditions. Even corrected numbers will be skewed by such a tremendous temperature difference.
