Local shop will not install headers

Local shop will not install headers So I dropped off my car thursday night to get my headers put on the following day. I called the guy later in the afternoon and he will absolutely not put them on because of the ory. He said there is no way he can legally install that stuff and it will never pass inspection so he wants nothing to do with it? Can't you tune out the codes that come on so that it will pass inspection? I took it over there to save myself a headache, but I might just have to put them on myself, and I can't imagine this would be too much fun with the car on jackstands (don't know anyone with a lift).
i think pretty much everyone installs these in their garage... on jack stands.. you just need to make sure you get it as high off the ground as possible
and yes you can tune the EGR and AIR to not set the CHECK ENGINE light.. and same with tuning out the rear O2 sensors..

Alot of regular repair/exhaust shops usually will not touch them being they can be seriously fined for working with illegal exhaust. However most of your race/performance shops can do it.
If they actually do a visual where they bend down and look for cats (which they most likely will do in NY) you will fail. Although there are a lot of shops in NY that a little palm greasing will guarantee your passing

Thats why the shop won't do it. It's illegal to remove cats on a car thats going to be driven on the street, I don't care how many people do it and get away with it, it's illegal.

To get the headers in I had to jack it all the way up with the jack under the front k member, got them in place and lowered it to the jack stands to do the rest.
Then I removed the air, the codes, all in a single car garage. No inspections
here.

you can have egr and air tuned out to pass inspection, same with 02's. it should fail for not having cats but not all technicians will look/care if they are not there. i see your in upstate ny, where about? we can do all of that at new era (see sig), install the headers, and tune out the EGR/AIR for you.

I live right near Massena, NY which is right near the Canadian border. A guy in my town actually just took his car to your shop not too long ago. I think I'm going to just put them on myself. I read the install guide on here and it doesn't seem too difficult just time consuming and since I'll be done with school in a week and won't start my new job for another 3 weeks I'll have plenty of free time to work on it. I'm gonna plan on coming down there to get it tuned by you guys, I was also looking into Redline Motorsports in Schenectady, but it seems you guys did a really good job tuning the guys car that lives near me so I'll probably just set up an appointment within the next couple weeks to come down and it have it tuned. Can I order the block off plates for the EGR and AIR from you guys?
