Default Mufflex 4" too big to pair up with Macs???

Hey fellas. I was just wondering if the Mufflex 4" is too big to pair up with Mac Headers.... Right now, I am running the macs, ORY, into flowmaster exhaust, cutout, with B and B tips, and am looking to free up a few more ponies....

I just got my T1 cam installed, and the next mods on my list are, ASP Pulley, LS6 Intake Manifold, and a Mufflex 4"..... My current mods are in sig....

So, do you think this would be a beneficial swap that would gain power/sound over my current setup?
Also, how much better will the mufflex flow than a basically stock I pipe with a cutout?

Thanks in advance fellas!

TJ

I dont think you'll gain that much hp, but it will sound very mean Somewhat like a race car. I think a cutout would make more power, but I dont like the sound of those. I'm running the 3.5 inch Mufflex coupled with the MAC headers and off road Y. On occasion I think its too loud, but usually I am very satisfied.

What will I need to mat ethe Macs with the Mufflex? Will an exhaust shop be able to do it for me?

Also, where does the Mufflex system start? Is it from the Cats back, or from the Y back?

Thanks,

Hey TJ, I am runnin MAC's, ORP, and 4" Mufflex...single outlet.

It definitely sounds mean as hell and has a really loud rasp right before shifts and right after.

I love it

The only thing I had to do to make it fit was cut two slits in the Mufflex and use a standard exhaust clamp to squeeze it together. Then I put the Mufflex clamp over some exhaust tape at the joints. No leaks.

The Mufflex starts right where the Y-Pipe ends. No cuttin or riggin required.

If you get it how about a sound clip? I am curious about the T1 sound thru this exhaust.

PS: I get alot of ricers askin if its a 6 banger because the single pipe and I took all my emblems off my Z.

Later, Stu

My Mufflex came with the 2 slits in it. It comes with a clamp to clamp it to a Y pipe. At first I had it clamped but it wasn't on too well. Took it to the track and blew the catback off doing a burnout. Talk about embarrassing

I then had the exhaust shop open up the end of the MAC Y, and then put a small spot weld in addition to the clamp. I am a big fan of welded exhaust setups.

edit - it will sound farty/resonent from ~2100-2500. But you probably already know what that sounds like if you have a cutout with the MAC headers and Y.

The Mufflex I-pipe that mates to the Y-pipe sucks. I suggest you get the Hooker or Flowmaster slip on transition tube and have it welded. it kinda looks like a cone in sorts. It's either a 2.5 into a 4 pipe I went with the 3 into a 4 tube. The difference in the SOTP feels better with the transition tube. Summit sells both I believe. just fyi

How was the sound difference between the Mufflex and say the borla wide open? Which is louder? Which sounds better?

I would say a 3.5" Mufflex system should be plenty and the 4" is a little too much.

Good Luck
