Default What are the best racing headers?

How much are they and where can I look at them online? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> I'm considering changing out my TTS 1 3/4" longtubes out for a set of 1 7/8" longtubes.

You might consider Dynatechs. They make 1/78s stepped headers for the LS1. They are race only (meaning no air or egr provisions). They are the company that makes FLP headers. Try www.dynatech.com that might be it.

Go for the Dynatech stepped 1-3/4" to 1-7/8" LT's! You can support one of our sponsors and but them direct at $649 at http://www.billingsleyracing.biz.fut...wsn/page6.html

P.S. One last time...DON'T FORGET THE MERGE COLLECTORS!!!!

As far as I know you have two options - Dynatech's 1-3/4 to 1-7/8 step header or 1-7/8 Grotts. Last I heard ARE was able to get the Grotts.

So I'll want the step headers ($649) + 2 merge collectors ($578). Then for the strip I'd run open collectors or short 6-12" extensions.

How do these headers/collectors perform with some backpressure? (if I run a full exhaust for street trim)

Has anyone who runs open exhaust switched from 1 3/4" longtubes to these dynatechs/merge collectors? Were they really worth 10rwhp?

if youre trying to save cash skip the merge collectors. many people have gained (not ls1's) a few hp with the merge collectors, but for some its not worth the extra 400-500 bucks. i would just run the stepped dyna's with 3.5" collectors and about 16" of 3.5" pipe on each side.

Terry unless u r gonna run a 400CI dont go 3.5 in collector. Now the merge is good IF u run opnen headers and a 12in extension too.

The merge collectors dont like mufflers unless u run an Xpipe.

This is what I was told by Jay and Dyna.
I thought about the merge collectors but IMP not worth the cash.

A reputable shop will tell you that you will easily lose hp and tq with a 3.5" collector vs a 3.0" collector at your level of modification. The merges will definately be worth some power, as well as the dynatech steps.

I asked this in another post, but it'll probably be more appropriate in this thread... What is the power difference between the stepped headers, and the straight 1 7/8" headers? When should one be used over the other??

Thanks!

Ian, the purpose of the stepped header is to maintain higher velocity and add to the exhaust scavenging as the hot exhaust gases expand. The net result is better low to mid-range power over 1-7/8" and a slight addition top end wise.

Terry, I am still fabricating my headers now but I can tell you that the quality of workmanship of these merge collectors is very good!

Any updates? I am torn between the stepped and non stepped 1 7/8 headers. Also can't decide between the standard collectors and the merge collectors. I will be runnning a Borla exhaust on the street, but dual 3" or 3.5" cutouts at the track coming off the y-pipe.

JP98SS, I should have my system completed and on the dyno within about 2 to 3 weeks.

JohnB -- The merge collectors you have listed look different thn the ones that Dynatech offers. The ones that Dynatech sells actually neck down to 2.5" before opening back up to 3" at the end of the collector. I like the price though....I think I might just go with the standard collector and try the merge collectors at a later date.
