Default Help! Broke a header bolt.

I installed my Mac headers a few days ago. And today one of the header bolts broke off. Its the 2nd one from the back on the passenger side. I put lock-tite on all the bolts before I put them in and tightened them pretty good. So why do you think this happened? And how bad is it? It broke off right where it begins to thread. Do I need to fix it, or will I be alright? Will it leak air? Should I back my other bolts off a bit? Thx for the help.

Did you use your stock bolts or the locking header bolts?

I would think you would have to E-Z it out but this being an aluminum block, I would be extremly careful. I dunno how you are going to get to #6 in order to get it out. It's going to be a PITA.

You can get an EZ out at your local parts store.

It's probably going to leak. It will sound like "putt-putt-putt" coming from the engine compartment. I don't understand where the bolt broke. If the head broke off you should be able to take the headers off completely, which will allow you to get a set of locking pliers on the nub and twist the rest of the bolt out.

Sterling.

I put anti sieze on my header bolts. I was too afraid of using locktite over the long haul when I want them back out.

Side note, I cross threaded the far back bolt on the passenger side. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" /> That stunk.

I would try ez out but be VERY careful!
It's going to be a pain on that side that far back.

I can't see how you could get a drill in that confined area of #6 to drill out the bolt for an EZ-Out. I would probably try to use a dremel with a thin cut-off wheel and grind a slot in the end of whats left of the bolt. Then use an offset slotted screw driver and carefully try to remove it. If there was enough room, you would have better luck with an impact driver. A little heat from a propane torch (make CERTAIN that there's no gas leakage anywhere in the engine compartment and have a charged fire extinguisher handy) might make the aluminum around the bolt expand a bit faster than the steel bolt, giving you an extra advantage. Good luck with this one.
