Funny sound when coasting out of gear
I was under there this weekend when I painted my calipers and I didnt see or feel anything clearance problems, but then again...all the wheels were off and the rear end was unloaded. I will play with it this week to see if I see anything with the rear end on the ground, but I am just wondering if anyone else has had and solved this problem before.

Look for bare shinny metal when your back under the car. Having the wheels off should make it a lot easier to spot. The rear end of Top Fuel and Alcohol Dragsters and Funny Cars make a strange whirring sound when their motors break and the rear end gets unloaded. The car is basically coasting across the finish line at that point when you hear this noise. You can only hear this sound when there is no other car running in the other lane since their engines are a heck of a lot louder than the noise the rear end makes. Since your not driving a Fuel Car on the street it's worth checking into more closely.
EDIT: BTW I have only 8K miles.

• If I slowly come to a stop, out of gear, I hear/feel a clunking from the rear of the car
• Dealer replaced fluid (and friction additive)...still clunks
• Dealer replaced bearings, housing, and a few other parts (~$2100 under warranty)...still clunks
• Clunks when the rear end is not under load (i.e. going down a hill with cruse control on)
• If you leave the car in 4th as you slowly come to a stop, you will hear the clunking noise at around 40 km/h
• If you are driving and the gear your are in is too high for you speed this will often result in a clunking noise
Any ideas?
Thanks,
