it frees up a little horsepower by spinning the accessories slower. the accessories - water pump, air conditioner, alternator, power steering pump, etc... - cause parasitic loss because the engine has to use energy to turn them. if the engine is turning them more slowly, you free up more horsepower by lowering the amount of parasitic loss. expect something like 5-10 hp from an underdrive pulley. IMO, it's not worth it because it reduces the voltage of your car by making the alternator spin more slowly and also cuts the power of the air conditioner, but to each his own. you may also see a slight jump in mpg because the engine isn't working as hard to turn accessories. i've always found it interesting that switching a mechanical water pump for an electric water pump is good for 1-2 mpg increase in fuel economy...

I have been running a asp pulley for about 4 years now with no problems. The only issue I am going to have with it is that I don't believe it is sfi approved where as the slp pulley is.

you shouldn't see a drop in voltage. The alt put out more then needed, witch is why it has a regulator on its output.

Electrical things have ALWAYS been more efficient than mechanical things. Most transformers can easily see 60% eff compare that to a IC engine. We send power acrost the nation all the time with little loss where no mechanical system could ever do that.

As for what was mentioned earlier with superchargers.... you don't want an underdrive pulley with a superchager. That's counter production imho. You are loosing boast. Now a light weight pulley of the same diameter would be cool. 25% reduction, NO!

underdrive pullies are notorious for lowering voltage. they're especially notorious for doing so on V6 models. a lot of them drop to the 11V level at idle instead of 14.7V where it should be. the problem comes at idle. not everyone may have this problem, but some do. if pullies were fail-safe and there were no downsides, everyone would be running them. why not? it's a cheap way to free up ponies with an easy install to boot. so why do most run stock pullies? well...because of what i mentioned.

pullies are a good way to free up horsepower and fuel economy. however, they're not for everyone. if the benefits outweigh the disadvantages i mentioned, pull the trigger. if not, that's cool, too.

D or any one who has one can answer.

1. How is your A/C with the UD pulley, did you notice any differene?
2. How fast do your windows roll up, stock they are already slow?
3. Do your headlamps flicker, do they stay constant when you steer?
4. Is your ilde voltage at stock, 14V?
5. Does your voltage gauge stay constant or does it bounce around?

Anyone

Will ASP work with a procharger kit from EPP?

ASP pulley here for almost 7 years. No problems whatsoever and idle voltage is still 13.9 V.

ASP here 5 years no problem, bought long before SLP started making them. But still would not buy anything from SLP, overpriced and Bad customer service. Pully helped me get deep into the 12's without headers.
