Default Pacesetter ORY.. so easy to install.. why do people bitch about it

I installed my long tubes.. (took 30min to get them in and bolted in..BOTH SIDES)..

the Pacesetter ORY was EAAAAAAAAAASY.. i dont see why people hate it, and say it fits like crap... this thing slid in with ease.. and i LOVE the ground clearance on this thing.

granted i did my poly motor mounts last week.. but still this ORY is awesome. I used some stainless steel band clamps instead of the crappy U clamps.. couldnt be happier with this set up.

so for those of you who are debating it.. its a nice Y pipe..

Sound clips (I only ask because I see the ASA cam in your sig ). Nice choice with the band clamps, U clamps are total dog ****.

Mine fitted like **** and was right on the driver side floor board. Every car is different.

Yeah, the driver side floorboard without poly motor mounts is terrible. I now have poly mounts and will be putting on a catted Y this weekend and I think I will have just as much if not more ground clearance with the catted y now as I did with the ORY and stock motor mounts.

Have to remember some get the crappy ones, and some get the awesome ones - not all long tubes are made exactly the same regardless of how many machines made them.

Im thinking that its not so much the long tubes and its more that each car is different. Or maybe its a combination of the two.

I mean i personally know of two installs of jet hot here locally by some board members in which they did not need to remove the steering shaft as they just slide right in as for mine i had to as there was no way in getting them in without doing so..

Another variable for the Pacesetter Y is that it used to be a one piece deal... if Im not mistaken. Now its a two peicer. I can see how that would make a major difference. Im almost positive that there was at least a early and late design. I once heard of a guy whose y wouldnt even slip over the collectors. What kinda sense does that make? Both pacesetter.

Anyway... +1 for the pacesetter Y. Poly mounts here and no banging. Also the ground clearance is unreal. The lowest point will almost allow a can to stand directly under it. Several spots give a can almost an inch to go!

I had the two piece design. The ground clearance was the best it could be on mine because the damn thing was on the floorboard.

well it must be the saggy motor mounts then.. when i replaced mine.. my motor mounts were absolutlely trashed.. this might account for some people who have issues.. right now i have 1/2" of space between the Y and floor (on the driver side where the Y is partly crushed down)

and for the person who wants a sound clip.. SO DO I!!! because the car is not running yet.. waiting on getting replacement rocker arm bolts, since i rounded 2 of them.. i should have sound clips in a week..

I agree! I don't have poly mounts though. I fabbed a hanger for the drivers side. All the Pacesetter Y's I've done were 2 piece, and all hit the floor unless I did something about it. I recommend everyone use band clamps (U-bolts suck), just for ease of dissassembly.

My mechanic just put mine up to my QTP headers. He suggested flex couplers on the end of the y-pipe (to avoid having to go with the poly motor mounts) with an exhaust hanger or two to hold the y-pipe in place. That way, the couplers could flex with the movement of the motor without the y-pipe being slung around like a cowboy in a PBR championship ride. I pick up the car tomorrow and will let yall know how it turned out.

On a side note, anyone need a set of poly motor mounts for a LS1 f-body?

this is a good idea.. but also seems like a band aid solution when the real problem is the engine torquing over due to old motor mounts.. They are not that hard to do.. i did mine all by myself, and i know you guys are cabaple of doing them too.

So you got the Pacesetter Y? I'm still trying to find the time to do mine at home.

There is nothing wrong with my new motor mounts. Its got to do with it not working on my car. The tsp duals do not bang.

Yeah...the previous owner had a catted y setup on there that looked 'too' custom. The thing had been hacked and tacked without concern for ground clearance. Don't know what they were thinking - especially since they butted a piece of 3-inch tubing up to my passenger collector and welded it on as an extension! Who the hell in their right mind welds something like that to the collector of a set of QTP SS headers that retail for ~$800??? I'll tell you who....the same people that stuck 7.35" pushrods the motor when it needed 7.4" pushrods. I know where I'm not taking any of my cars...
