Sounds like the thermostat is stuck. Mine did the same thing when I changed the cam, but it seems like it un-stuck itself right after I reved it up for the first time. I used dexcool though. GM might have recommended dexcool for a reason.

Any problems before the swap? I mean, why change from the Dex?

But ya, remove/replace the t-stat and try it. Or maybe something else has clogged it up.

well dex coool! i had many problems with that, if seen many gm cars with clogged radiators because of dex cool, and dex cool also causes corosion because of all the chemicals mixed inside, after a year or two dex cool will start to turn into chunks of brown stuff in your cooling system.

You might have air in the system.

I would start the car up with the surge tank open as well as the radiator cap off. Let it run a while like that and add coolant as needed. You could also hold the rpms steady around 2-2.5k to speed up the process. There is a procedure that you can follow that I have read somewhere. But, doing like I stated above has always worked in the past for me.
