bolt on's
chevy performance just did a write up on some bolt on's in a 2002 ss with a volant cold air kit ans slp lm exhaust. They did dyno runs to see what they add. They did a granatelli maf that added 17lb-ft and 12hp. then they did a bbk 80mm tb which added 15lb-ft and 16hp. also and diablosport predator which did 8lb-ft and 12hp. Then on a diff motor thats a 383 they said the elec water pump help gain 30lb-ft and 23hp and that underdrive pulleys gained them 30lb-ft and 25hp. just figured i tellin people this since there questions on what to get out of these mods.

those gains seem VERY inflated.
adding those together quickly yields almost 90hp....
so a bolt on LS1...without even considering headers...would be sitting at 390rwhp with those mods....RIGHT!!!
try maybe 340rwhp

ok i have the article in front of me, heres how it goes......
Starting baseline 276hp@5400,285tq@4700 ('02SS w/ volant cold air & SLP LM1)
add Granatelli MAF = 288hp@5450,302q@4500 gain of 12hp/17tq
on top of that add BBK 80mm t/b = 304hp@5300,317tq@4450 gain of 16hp/15tq
on top of that add Pred. tuner = 316hp@5400,325tq@4600 gain of 12hp/8tq
everything was added on top of another mod actually making each mods gains higher due to the increased efficiency of the motor, overall gain is 40hp & 40tq, my question is how does an '02SS dyno 276hp/285tq at the wheels with an intake and exhaust? sounds like the car isnt runnin right to me, i dunno if the numbers are real fishy but i think the starting baseline is fishy

Like the old saying goes. If something sounds too good to be true then it probably is.

in all honesty...the gains from the predator seems to be the most realistic.
alot of guys talk about a .1 sec gain...so about 10hp...so a 12hp gain is not all that off.
but 16 from a TB....RIGHT!!!

My 02 Z28 A4 with simular starting mods dyno'd 284rwhp(I don't have the sheet, so can't remember Tq) only addition was a canned predator tune and hp went to 307.1, so I do think some of the cars did have tune issues from the factory. That was a 23.1 hp gain with only the Predator and was RW SAE. times went from 13.8 to 13.54 full weight car with 2.73's. And was after adding about 100 pounds of weight(DD SFC's, STB, boxed LCA's). No Hp gain in the world compares to real world track times though. You would think going from 307.1 rwhp to adding LT headers and ported tb, and getting A/F dialed in on the wideband and putting down 340 rwhp sae, same dyno same day that track times would really improve. At the time I was running 13.1 regular, some dips in the 13.0's, after the LT's, I ran 13.1's, with more dips into the 12.9's, but not a huge increase. I'm sure results would have been different with a real tune(not using a handheld). Biggest bang for the buck was the stall converter(1/2 second gain untuned).
