Catch Can install/config.. will this work?
As one of my things to try to stop this smoke on decel i'm going to rig up a catch can... wondering if this would work
(I have the LS6 PCV setup... don't know for sure if I'm sucking oil in throug it but trying everything)
Lifter Valley Cover -> 3/8" hose -> Air Compressor water/air seperator -> PCV Valve -> connect in stock location
The Air Compressor water/air seperator is here
So the way it should work is the oil will drop down into the seperator but air will still be allowed past right? Anyone see any probs doing it this way?

Valvecovers --> Y-merge --> catchcan --> PCV valve --> intake manifold inlet
The only issue I could see with using that oil seperator is that it is kind of small. These engines can suck alot of oil thru the PCV system. On the catchcan I rigged up, it would suck up about 1/4 quart in less than 3,000 miles!

The goal is to slow the gas/oil down, so that the oil comes out of suspension. Then you need a space for it to collect.
What you have pictured is not going to do much of either. It is better than nothing, but not a lot better.
As stated, ounces of oil will be stopped with a properly designed system. In less that 500 miles I collected about 4 ounces of oil.

I actually have a set up just like you are envisioning. I catch about an ounce of oil in 1000 miles. I could see it being a problem if you have more oil than that coming thru the PCV system...
good luck,

I just installed this on mine. so no review yet, but no problems. The install was sweet on an '01 - without the EGR there is space at the front of the passenger head to bolt it on.
If it lets too much oil through, I'll go for a Greddy, but this was a low cost alternative to start with.

I've seen others with oil/water separators of this sort
installed and they were catching oil. That's what it's
made for. They don't depend on "slowing the air down",
they use centrifugal separation (if you look at the
little baffle plate inside) to fling the oil against the
outer wall while drawing from the quiet center.
