Default Custom exhaust question

I have 1.5k to spend and I decided I would go with a custom exhaust setup that I've been dreaming of. I would like suggestions on what would be better. This is just an idea, I haven't fully researched this, so I'm expecting alot of people saying "your a dumbass" lol. I just want loudness, I'm not worried too much about tone, because if I cap the cutouts, I'll get the good ol' muffler sound. Yes I know a cam would sound great, but that is going to come at a later time. And just for reference I'm running a 150 shot dry on a 98 LS1 Trans Am.

Thinking of completely taking off my stock exhaust system.

Hooker Headers ($290)

Around 20 feet of 3" stainless steel piping ($85)
http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...52882_-1_10263

2 Magnaflow Mufflers ($100) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MAGNA...15339118QQrdZ1

2 High Flow Cats ($103) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/3-00-...QQcmdZViewItem

2 Exhaust Cutouts ($76)
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Summi...spagenameZWDVW

2 Magnaflow Exhaust Tips ($50)
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Magna...23432104QQrdZ1

2 Electrical Exhaust Cutouts ($305)
http://shop.quicktimeperformance.com...ct_detail&p=40

For a total of :1009

Here is a picture I made in paint to visually show my idea. It was made very quick so everything isn't in proportion. And quite frankly I don't think it matters lol.

Basically, It would be "open" hooker headered true dual exhaust while caps are open, and detour the harmful exhaust fumes from just putting electric cutouts straight in front of the headers, and can pass inspection.

I'm open to all criticism/compliments.

Thanks.

if i where you id put an x pipe in before the cut out and if i remember right (feel free to corect me if im wrong) the cats need to be as close to the headers as possible for them to get hot enough to reach the light off temp for them to work properly

The cats are so far back, they basically wont be working. I just like the brand, and don't want the stock cats. It's a weird OCD thing.

as folks already mentioned, the cats are too far back. other than being noise inhibitors they serve no purpose that far back in your exhaust system. secondly, although the idea of having straight pipes with some some bullets seems loud. understand that your sound will suffer. also, performance will not be maximized. no backpressure will yield negative results. try an h pipe (better sound) or an x pipe (a bit more hp).

dude, dont screw around with that. save yourself some $$$ and buy the TSP TD's with bullets and be done with it. if you absoutely have to have cats, fashion them in after, if not dont worry about it. with the TSP TD's and bullets you wont want cutouts.

Don't forget to add in labor to your costs. You're basically showing a pieced together true dual setup but I (along with about everyone here) would HIGHLY suggest you use an X or an H pipe in there. Also, everyone else was correct when they said you're cats are too far back.

That's the whole point in having the cats back that far. Theyre basically not working, but you can pass texas inspection....

you can simply just weld metal sheeting around the piping to look like cats....

get yourself some heatshields off a pair of cats and voiala, inspection passed.

youre going to need to balance that thing out too. throw in an X or a simple H pipe and youre set. a common rule is, x pipes make more power (slightly) and H pipes sound better.

that doesnt make any sense, the point of taking the cats off is to free up flow, not to polute which is essentially all they are doing with them back that far. your really just defeating the purpose, you may as well just put them up where they should be. your not gaining anything by putting them back that far.

I'm just going to put the heatshields instead of putting cats. But think about it, if I have my caps open on my cutouts, there basically "isnt" any muffler or cats. So yes there is a reason for putting them that far back lol.
