check out my setup, its stock like quiet almost. Its a bit to quiet!, but i think thats because i have stock piping with the oem dual dual that wasn't meant for the stock system. I think i need the 3 inch piping in order to make it a bit louder. Of course this is with the cutout closed.

FWIW, on my last car I ran Jet Hot longtubes, jet hot Y, no cats, and a catback.
It was loud, not horrible, had some rasp, but I hated the smell with the Ttops off.
This car, I'm running Edelbrock longtubes, Edelbrock Y with Magnaflow hi flow cats, and a Hooker CB. Its quieter than the last car, no rasp, but smells almost as bad. But I live in Houston and my car will pass inspection in its current configuration.

If you decide to go catless, weld a dynomax bullet in the I pipe to get rid of most of the rasp. Otherwise, it will sound like arz. I ran Jet hot Lt, ORY, and Magnaflow on my last car and it sounded great after the bullet. Before, not so good.
Oh, the exhaust smell is enough to make you want to run cats and the power loss is minimal.

I am almost afraid of what it will sound like when I get my Pacesetter LT's , ORY, and cam installed which are sitting in the garage waiting for installation. I'm not sure which I would go with yet...I will let you know as soon as I get mine installed.
I'm afraid of what it will sound like when you get lt's and an ory. It's going to sound like garbage.

If you have specific goals for your car and are heading in a certain direction, why not just get everything right the first time instead of having to fork out money for parts, labor, or the blood and sweat on doing it yourself.
If you want that ricey swarm of bees sound on your LS1, ditch your cats while running LT's.

I just put on the Pacesetter LTs and a catted y-pipe. Drove the car 50 miles and removed them to put on an offroad y-pipe. Not because of any sound or HP but because the cats sat too low and the first time I drove the car I knocked off the left side. I drove over a speed bump, and trust me I am so careful it pisses everyone else off. The clamp holding the second section of the y-pipe drug the speed bump and pulled it right off at a crawl. I bought the Texas speed catted y-pipe. The ORY tucks up nice and neat and only has one junction to worry about and it is tucked up way high compared to the catted units 4 junctions.
I am selling the catted y if interested. If you live in a smog state you will need them. Florida does not smog test. I just wanted to be nice to the enviroment, but my car is so low I decided against this.
It is louder and drones on the highway with my Cartek exhaust, but it is acceptable to me. I only drive it once in a while.

I probably could fit a can under there now too if I still had the cats now that I have taken off changed out the EIbach Sportlines and replaced theim with Vogtlands, about 1/2 inch or so higher, but I am not putting them back on now. I like the way it sounds. VERY throaty and not raspy at all.

Just replaced my Pacesetters with TSP catted Y for. QTPs with custom Y going into Flowmster Scavenger series merge and ending up at Hooker catback. Got tired of dragging the TSP system on the ground. You should not have to worry about every little bump in the road. No more cats for me.
