SLP coming out with a NEW BLACKWING !!!
#22
Mine doset rub the hood, or the bottem of the neck. The have been shipping a newer style lid for a 2ish? months now. They fit alot tighter on the maf, you dont need a clamp really. You have to heat the lid somtimes to get them on, they fit so tight.
The lids fits great, most dont install it right, and have the front no seated right. Proablly half the DIY cars the come in the shop have the lids not seated right.
SLP is redesigning there LS1 Fbody LTs

I kinda agree,,,but fitment is another story imo...the four tabs on the back almost require a bfh install,,mine fit like ****, not only rubbing, but would not sit on one side, fix it, then the other side would be off.... i ended up removing the lil black tray the filter sits in, and now it actually fits on both sides at the same time , and dosnt rub!,,but i have that infamous "leftover bonus part"

I have a fourth gen lid (the original and the SLP) and they only seem to fit a 75mm MAF. I understand what you are saying about the SLP MAF for the fbody and it being 85mm. I am not sure how they get it to work out unless it has a reducer or coupler. Looks like it does come with 3 pieces on their web site (MAF, adapter cable and some sort of short cylinder).

^^ SLP lid?
ya I have one.
"blackwing" style I have no idea.
Most the the poor fitting lids, its not the lids problem. it's:
K&N and the other cotten filter dont fit right.
too long or short, smooth bellows.
78+mm TB adaptors plates, and n20 plates.

Anyone notice how the old design fit on some cars and didnt fit on others? Its because they were made using there inconsistent thermoformed process, now they swithced to injection molding which should result in a better formed lid with equal fitment on all cars.

That looks like the same design as the original slp lid, not the original blackwing. The blackwing (like I got around 5 years ago) has an oval opening at the back, then a thick rubber oval to round transition piece that connects to the maf. It used a better molding process than the cheapo lid (slp non-blackwing, or others like whisper). The cheapo ones are in two pieces glued together and can have fitment problems. The blackwing was made like the oem lid, one piece and good fit. So hopefully that's how the new one's made. I like the original BW design because you don't have to go through a big hassle and use a hairdryer to separate the lid from the maf, the rubber piece is held on with a clamp.
