Default Quick thermostat question

I know installing a 160 stat wont do anything without reprogramming the fans. However, I plan on getting a tune early next year, so will it hurt anything to install a 160 for now with stock fan settings, and change them with the tune next year to benefit?

Just seems easier than replacing the stat again later since Im doing a coolant flush tomorrow.

Thanks.

why do u think it wont due anything?, to my understanding a thermostat it all mechanical, and will open to try and maintain 160 degrees, I bought a fan switch to help out the cooling/ maintinging of the engine temp process. Its not installed yet but im pretty sure you dont need a tune to make the thermostat work.

You can install it now if you want, won't hurt anything.

What I meant by the tune was that I will reset the fans then, while its being tuned for other mods then, since I dont have access to editing it at the moment.

Thanks for the replys....I'll toss it in worry free now.

You can install. The only thing it will do is cause a longer warm up period and allow for lower running temp if you can keep the engine and coolant down. As far as keeping the running temp down by turning the fans on at the programmed setting (is it 250?) .. not going to help any, it is still going to run its normal temp.

If you can get enough air flow to cool the engine temp do (highway sppeds), the lower t-stat will allow it to run at a lower temp. as it will stay open until it temp drops below the 160 range.

I would say that it would only help you at highway speeds to allow running at the lower temp. If the engine does get up to the higher temp.. the 160 stat is not going to help in keeping it cool.
The purpose of a T-Stat is to assist in getting the engine up to the correct running temp faster and keep it at that or above the t-stat settings..
Fans and air flow is what will be the two factor of what the normal engine running temp will be.
