Default Which Cats!?

I am getting headers but it has to pass CA emissions. I am getting long tubes(dnt care about visual) but which cats should i go with?

I will be getting Pacestter Long Tubes. The reason I am asking is because of the prie difference between the two.

MagnaFlow or Pacestter Cats?

Thanks,
Taylor

honestly, stock cats off the for sale section. You won't be able to pass with any "high flow" cats in Ca... (from what I've read and heard, no first hand experience)

Stock cats won't fit on the header collectors (the stock cats have pipe with triangle flange attached, won't fit on collectors).

Have you already smogged...?

It will pass the sniffer test with either cat, provided you're not running rich...
sometimes a tune is needed after installing headers.

Just relaying back to you what I've read everywhere, aftermarket high flow cats will not pass the sniffer.

But hey you can take the chance if you want, but I wouldnt want to spend all that money if there's a good risk that it won't pass. Just my .02

They will fail visual inspection (as will the headers).

SLP high flow cats on hooker headers, on a H/C car. I passed last year, but they had to run it twice. I wasnt finished tuning either, so i'm sure that caused the problem.

I can get the Pacesetter ones for $125 each the Magnaflows are $275ish. Pacesetter says 50 state legal and they will pass.

I dont know which one will pass.

Visual I dont care about but it needs to pass the sniffer.

It will still fail, the I/M monitors won't run with the LT's and goofy cats. As soon as your guy plugs into the DLC with his IM240, the state will be onto you. I F-ing hate Cali..

I think you can still get around it.

I don't have emissions in my state but I bet you can talk to the right tuner or someone on the boards here in the tuning section.

I think he means that since the 02 is farther away it will try to make it too rich. With tuning software you could set the computer to trick it and program it leaner just for the test.

Or perhaps have it tuned and disable the trim cells so it can't change the AFR.

In fact, joecar might know. hehe

Aftermarket cats are certainly capable of passing the sniffer. A friend of mine with an untuned '88 L98 car (cam / heads / intake / etc...) and a dynomax cat passed just fine. I know a lot of the import guys are passing with carsound (magnaflow) cats as well. The thing to keep in mind is that the aftermarket cats won't last as long, so after a few years you may have to replace them. But, with a good tune (the most important part) you can pass with high flow cats.

Are you sure but from reading above it is hard to agree with that.
