No cats - need help I purchased a car sight unseen on the word of the owner there were no issues, only mods were catback, lid throttle body and wheels.
well, 20 miles into driving it the SES light comes on. I stopped at auto zone and had them read it. P0420 and P0430 - both are related to the O2 sensors... which I found out are not there since there are no cats, I guess it also has the Bassani ORY that the owner failed to mention.
My question is what all do I need to have everything legal again? Im hoping to find a stock WS6 exhaust from the manifold back. If I can, what do I do about the O2 sensors? Should the wire and everything still be on the car?
If I cant find a stock exhaust, can I get Miidas or someone to install 2 cats?
If so, same question - how do I get the O2 sensors to work and read correctly?

Just go to a sponsor if you have any around you they will set you straight and delete the codes you can try that first, it is cheap, see if you pass or not, then you can put the stock stuff back on if you have too.
That sucks you need the sniffer. Without the cats it may be hard to pass. Run some of that guaranteed to pass stuff in the gas (dont really know if it works) And wring that sucker out a few times on the highway. Do they not plug in the OBDII there?

Theoretically, a perfectly tuned engine that was 100 % efficient would only produce water and C02 (perfect combustion). Unfortunately, "most" engines are not 100 % efficient and do not achieve perfect combustion. That leaves CO, Nitrogen Oxides and Hydrocarbons in the exhaust. A catalytic converter works to clean up these dirty byproducts of combustion and convert them to Nitrogen, Carbon Dioxide and Water. A sniffer test measures all these byproducts and determines whether they are at acceptable levels. Without a catalytic converter in place, theoretically you could pass but your chances of sucess are greatly reduced. Since no engine manufacturer has yet made a prefectly efficient engine that achieves perfect combusion, all vehicles are required to use catalytic converters.
update. it failed. had to get 2 cats welded in. most expensive inspection ever...
i did it then instead of trying to find some one here because if it doesnt pass within 10 days of registering it in NC they fine me $250. figured i should go ahead and do it.
