Lightbulb Inexpensive Fix to That Banging Y-Pipe

By now I'm sure that every one that's had an ORY installed knows how bad they can bang against the bottom of the car. I have a pretty simple fix to the problem if you don't mind a little welding. As you can see from the pic I welded a bolt about 1.5 to 2 inches long from behind the bend on the drivers side of the y-pipe to the brace that connects to the floor board right above it. It's set far enough back that it still allows the y- pipe to flex enough when the engine torques up.
Just make sure your really careful not to get the floor board too hot to keep from catching your carpet on fire. I'd weld for about 5 to 10 seconds then spray the brace with water. make sure to build up enough of a weld to hold it strong. The first time it was just tacked it in place and it broke pretty quick so then we welded it in place and welded plenty extra up around it. It's held pretty strong since installed. I've bottomed the car on the y-pipe a few times on speed bumps and it's held strong.

PM me if you have any other questions on it.

P.S. sorry for the pic quality I'll get the car up on jack stands and take a better pic later.

you could put a rubbber inbetween the floorboard and the pipe and tie it on

A poly driver side engine mount is ideal, but you could go super ghetto and use a motorcycle tie down winch thing and anchor the engine to the k member. You gotta get creative to figure out where. I think I did it near the alternator area.

Unfortuantely that banging is due to the construction/install issues with the Y pipe. my dynatech's never had the issue. I personally wouldnt trust rubber, with the heat and everything, thats just me. if it works, great. I would though consider cutting the pipe and bending it out of the way, not as cheap but better then buying another kit.

Poly motor mounts is the proper fix. I can see your rig putting stress between that point and where your headers mount to the heads.

Usually, a poly motor mount on the driver's side will fix the banging Y-pipe issue. It just depends on what type of longtubes/Y-pipe you have. If you have the ones I have right now, it's not gonna make a difference and actually heating the Y-pipe to bend it out of the way seems to be the only way.
