Your experience is consistent with that of most others: QTP headers fit horribly and are a major PITA to install. So much for all the bs posted on the forum about their superiority.

That being said, my XS driver's side header slid right into place. My nightmare with them started after that.

Longtube headers were not designed to be installed by an ameteur using jackstands. They were designed assuming a professional with a lift will be putting them in. That's why they recommend professional installation. Any header can give you a big headache using jackstands.

No doubt I am an ameture at this but what does jackstands have to do with the friggin steering shaft rubbing like that and there was no way it was "sliding" into place lift or not, not to mention all the k member issues I had. No doubt that the header is a quality piece but I was a little pissed about all the grinding and banging I had to do to get the driver in place when I payed 700+ for a header that is supposed to have some of the best design in the game.

On jackstands, you probably had a max of 2 feet of clearance. QTP is one of those headers that seem to require more. Kooks do the same thing so I've heard. They're impossible to install unless they're standing straight up, then they slide right in. I'll be doing my QTP's shortly, but on a lift, so I'll let you know what it's like with 6 feet of clearance

i took my time did a little then sat back to look some more, drivers side fit perfect, put passenger side in & out 4 times had to dent the k member a little,no problem a little heat from the torch couple bumps with the hammer instant clearence,my total time spent was about 8 hours and did not get mad even once, just take your time,if u get mad stop and look at how pretty them headers are set back cool of then go back to work, piece of cake.

Good luck but I had my car well up in the air. I could stand the header straight up to make it the tallest it could possibly be and it still gave me fits. I had like 4 boards under my jack and had well over 30" of clearance and no dice. Now maybe I got an "off" header or something but I don't want to ever do that again and I'm glad they are in. Completely happy with the clearance under the car and the performance but putting them in still sucked horribly. Once again good luck on the install

My kooks went in easy thank god. I had the front up on a 21" jack with a 4X4 between it and the K member. Had the rears on the rhino ramps too. I thought it was a PITA getting the Y-pipe in. My arms were bloodied. And doing it by myself was not fun. But I did it over a couple days.

i did mine on jackstands and both slid into place. the bolts just don't line up with the heads. which are brand new (0 miles) LS6 heads.

Yes, this happens time to time. Some people get lucky and have a cake install, others have nothing but problems. This happens with every brand of header. One thing the complaints usually have in common - the install is done by an amateur on jackstands. That's why I'll be doing mine with a professional on a lift. IMO, the jackstands thing scares the crap out of me. It's not worth it to me, along with the aggravation. You rarely hear of anything who had access to a lift having a problem with a header install.

You fail to see how poor clearance and lying on your back to do an 8 hour install can result in serious fitment issues?

Lying on your back with a car a meager 2 feet above your head gives you poor viewing angles, limited mobility and difficulty in maneuvering parts. That's why people on lifts normally do an install in half the time as guys on jackstands.

Hold on, lets back up. Have YOU ever installed headers? I don't think so. If I remember right, you have yours sitting some where "polished". I used a lift the first time and there was NO sliding in on the drivers side. I had to beat the floor board in and then it slid in. Now that I am in the middle of my heads/cam swap, with my car on ramps, I took my headers off. There is minimal space for my fat ***, but still the hearders came out. I put them back in the same way they came out, with my car on ramps. So why don't you post with actual experience instead of what you think should or should not happen

In responce to the earlier post about getting the car up high in the front, I backed my WS6 up onto rhino ramps and jacked the frt up, seemed to work pretty good, didnt have to go nuts w/boards and such. just an FYI, it was pacesetters though

So, you're arguing with my statement that "installing headers on a lift is easier than installing headers on a jackstand"? Because that is my point. Are you really going to argue it? And are you really going to argue that companies assume a professional will be installing these? Because they recommend professional installation on the documentation.

It was actually easier doing it today on the ramps. I didn't have to wait for the lift to go up and down to do anything. I just slid out on my creeper. It took me about 4 hours to do it on the lift. It took me less than 3 hours to do it on the ramps. Thats all I'm saying.

You talk about everything like you have experience in each of the fields. You don't. You go out on a tangent about numberous things that you yourself have never done. If you want to give people tips on polishing their headers go ahead, but don't try and inform people about things that you have never done. That is purely speculation on your part.

Once again man explain the lift theroy on why the damn primary is rubbing the steering shaft?? Jack stand did not do that. Also you can get the car MUCH higher then 2ft on jackstands hell the ones I bought at autozone have a 27 inch max lift on them with some boards under a jack I had over 30". I am not contending that a lift is better, it is period, but that doesn't make the headers change dimentions on it. And as far as QTP recomending professional installation that is bullshit, of course they are, all companies do. Are you going to follow their advice and let a pro do it, bc I'm pretty sure your not a "pro" with installing headers. The end of the story is that the QTP design I have did not slide in with no modification to the car. I understand that your kinda proud of your QTP's and want to defend them, trust me I don't want to say they are crap, bc they are not, but trying to say they slide in with no issue is a joke, period. I can't deny it with the proof staring me in the face. Just look at that picture the damn steering shaft is on the header there is no denying that and it is even off the jack stands on it so that throws out the "shitty jackstands" position.

Damn straight. Anybody can talk with no experience. Read the threads started by guys doing QTP installs. Many of them have had the same hassles that you did - INVOLVING FITMENT, not the method of installation.

And I'm not arguing that some other brand is better. LT installs are a miserable experience for a lot of guys with all kinds of brands (except perhaps Pacesetters. You don't seem to read a lot of horror stories with them).
