Default Problems with crank pulley install

So, search isn't working. I have been screwing with this for a while, and im not getting anywhere, so im posting. I got the old pulley off, Broke bolt loose easy, even with a 3 arm pulley puller, getting the old pulley off was not easy, but finally i got it. Now i can not get the new pulley on far enough to get the old bolt started to pull the pulley tight to the motor. I have to have it close, it goes on somewhat....

Any suggestions? the pulley is in the oven right now at about 250 degrees backing. gonna leave it in there for 20 minutes and see if that helps.

Thanks, Chris

I'm pretty sure heating it up is going to solve your problem 100%

Easy way to do it is to heat up the hub with a propane torch...takes about 1 minute...slips right on....just don't get it hot enough to melt the rubber seal that rides on the hub.

How hot should i put the pulley in the oven at. I had it at 250... It was in there for 25 minutes. It was nice and hot. Still with a piece of wood beating on it, it wouldn't slip on. Should i try 350? for another 10 minutes.

I tried to find a m16 2.00 pitch bolt longer, and i couldn't i looked everywhere, and they all looked at me like no one in the word would make a bolt this big...

Hmmmm propane torch.....

I'm telling ya...propane torch worked awesome for me....I tried the oven thing first too and it didn't work for me either. Hit that sucker with a torch and it will slip right on....just be careful and don't get it too hot. I actually checked mine by using an old rubber seal I had laying around to make sure it wasn't too hot to melt it.

I threw it back in the oven at about 350 for 15 minutes or so. Got it real hot, had a 2x4 with a dead blow hammer, and got the damn thing on. Wow did that suck.

Thanks guys for posting the help right away. Something that should of been so simple was such a pain...

I agree. But having stoped at Ace, Home Depot, Lowes, Menards.... I was out of places to try. I know its a 16mm 2.0 pitch or how ever bolts are rated. But i couldn't find one longer then the bolt that i had from gm. If i ever find a longer bold i am going to keep it in a safe somewhere.

Thanks again

Dont forget the Bfh, and the 2x4's... Even when heated up it needed some persuasion. It was a pain but we got it to finally go on. We got the bolt to thread in a little over 3 full turns by hand, then just cranked down on the bolt, and got it. Good luck man, Its rough.
