You might have to modify one of the bolts on the alternator mount. I have a short belt. It's a Gates Micro-V K060525. I've seen it done with and without the pulley. Mine is without the pulley.

Does the short belt mod delete the power steering?

just take it out... the bottom alternator bolt I mean. The belt is a 51.5", by the way. Most belt manufacturers will represent that right in the part number.. so a six rib 51.5" belt will come out looking something like 515K6 90% of the time. Any autozone can hook you up

do you guys bypass the alternator as well, or would the trips down the track drain the battery too much for that?

I run the short belt at the track all the time with no ill results.I picked up a solid tenth with it. I just bypass the power steering. I have never had to remove a bolt before when running mine though. Are you sure your belt routing is correct?

it's hit or miss like everything else. It depends on the belt too, some are a little wider, or thicker than others. Just look at the routing, and see if you have any clearance issues, most don't, but if you do it's likely going to be the bottom alt. bolt.

I got a 52.5" belt yesterday, but the tension was weak. Traded it for a 51" belt and it was just right. Could not find a 51.5" at either store I went to.
