well a lid is a lid so the slp is fine.i would get a holly filter or even just a ac delco one.the k&n's dont seal that good because they sit lower.and the oil from the k&n can get on your maf and make the car and tranny act wierd.most people dont notice a diff between the k&n's and simolar filters over a good factory one.

if you get a K&N make sure you get the seal to put around the inside of the lid so itll seal.

id say get a paper filter.

I have an slp lid and I've had no problems with it. As far as the filter just get a $10 paper filter from autozone.

I'm in the same boat. Havn't had a problem with my SLP lid. I payed $92 shipped new. I also notice my K&N doesn't seal correctly so I will be buying a stock or holley one.

I like my SLP lid, it seems to fit better than a lot of the others I've seen out there. fwiw, I hear it's the only one made that uses the oem plastic material. Good stuff. -Dave

I removed the tray that came with my SLP filter,,it seals great. Before, when i had that tray in there, it would not wanna seal on one side or the other,,,and the damn thing rubbed. I just ditched the lil black plastic tray

I have one in the Z and it works fine. Perfect size, and doesn't rub the hood at all.

As for perf they are about equal, SLP looks the best, the cleanest fit. That in my opinion the deciding factor. Also the price is decent.

They only rub the hood when put in conjunction with the useless smooth bellow or fernco mon. They cause the hood to raise, and it happens to any lid, not just SLP's. You just hear more complaints of SLP lids rubbing when this is done because they by far outnumber any other lid on the market.

The SLP lid is the best fitting and best made lid there is in terms of durability. No one uses a more durable material. There's a reason GM chose SLP to make their OEM Blackwing lid. SLP may not do everything well, but they do the lid better than anyone else. I love mine.

And I definitely vote for a paper filter. They're good for 500 hp and they filter MUCH better than a K&N or Holley Powershot, and those expensive filters aren't worth any real horsepower gains anyway.

Non ram air car, non ram air lower intake and regular T/A hood with the Smooth bellow, no rubbing. I think Camaro hoods are the issue, not T/A's my bud's z28 with the flow pac rubs.

I've got an slp with their smooth bellow and no rubbing. Perhaps the issue with rubbing is the fault of the installer, not the part. Either way, fit and finish are great. I'm currently using a holley filter, and it also fits and seals well.

Again, that's because of the smooth bellows. Put on the stock bellows and I bet it won't rub.

I have a smooth Bellows on my TSP lid and it doesn't rub... so I don't know if that statement is completely accurate...

Also, I said that the smooth bellows is a useless mod. If one was given for me for free, I would not use it. If someone offered me $20 to use it, I would not take the money. It's a useless mod and all it causes are problems.

I have one and the car feels better with it and it may or may not hit the hood. But IF it DOES, its to such a minor point that I dont care.

I've got a Whisper Lid. And its a damn good fitting lid. But if I had to do it all over again I would buy a MTI Clear see thru lid. Them Bitchs just look awsome sitting under a hood with the air filter in clear sight. Just my 2 cents. But you asked!
