Default AutoMeter water temp guage install

I have an electric AutoMeter water temp guage part #3337.
Please let me know what steps I need to take to install it..
Where does it hook up to and is there an existing fitting I can use?
Thanks

I don't have their electric one but i do have the analog... the sending unit must go into the plug on the rear of the passenger side head... basically where the stock on is on the driver side head, just flipped...

There should be a plug in the passenger side head that you need to take out and you will need to get an adapter for the gauge to go into it.

You don't need an adapter. Autometer sells a separate sensor that will screw into the rear of the passanger head. Makes it much easier.

Default auto meter water guage install needs sender 2259

the plug is part number 2259. I only ordered the adaptor, 2277, but found out that the sender would not fit inside the adaptor,,it would just bottom out.

if you will call Auto meter they will send you an LS1 specific sensor with metric threads. It costs about $10 no adaptors no nothing . No brainer. You'll it in a couple of days.

I didn't know there was a different sensor! DOAH!!! It was a PITA to grind the adapter and sender enough to fit together.

I got a little lazy and instead of trying to make it clean and route into the passenger compartment through an existing wiring harness and just routed it up and over the enginer, through the rubber boot for the shifter, and up the tranny tunnel under the center console.

The wiring was a particular PITA to route together through the pillar because of my three gauges but wasn't hard; just time-consuming.

time consuming is right,,,took longer to set up the pod prior to isntall than to run the sender wires. I will be installing a different pod though,,one of the holes i drilled is right in the freakin middle of the pod, so the button is right there in plain view. I hate it when i *** **** up. Its no biggie, but bugs the hell out of me. Be sure to follow instructions and put the holes in the corners, dont be like me.

i am tapping my original plate for that one. The Vet plate is 33 bucks at my local shop, but i have the means to do my own tapping. Hopefully, the plate isnt a PITA to remove

I have some questions about where my wire hookups should be under the dash,,stereo and electriconics / appearance and detailing,,,but im getting no hits on my threads. If any can take a look and give me some suggestions, id appreciate it.

I have been doing alot of searching and so far this is the only thread saying that part number 2259 plugs directly in to an lsx head. I just ordered the 2259 sending unit after reading this thread. Just been trying to look for more confirmation but alot of people are all saying something about needing some adaptor. Hopefully your right and this sending unit goes directly into the head savin me the headache!

I'll post up tomarrow after I see what happens.

Ok I think what happend here is after bigdsz said you do not need an adaptor you can just use the right sending unit....you chime in saying the part number is 2259. I have a bad feeling that is not going to be the part number I am going to need. I think what you did is not say that you were using the adaptor with the NEW sending unit. The way I read it was that you purchsed both 2259 and the adaptor but didnt need the adaptor because it just bottomed out... I think you were talking about trying to use the sending unit that comes with the autometer gauge.. with your adaptor you ordered so you then ordered the right sending unit... 2259. If I am right in this.. I just wasted time and money SWEET!

Anyone have the part number for this to make it clear for everyone else doing this........

From my search if you want to do the adaptor route in the head you will use 2277 with 2259.
If you want to use the spot on the block you will use adaptor 2268 with 2259. Hope this helps someone out in the future.
