Mobil 1 does run thin, so people experience burning oil when they use it. Switch to a different brand (a lot of people use german castrol 0W-30) or I have used pensoil platinum, and see if oil consumption changes.

i used to burn sometimes little less than 1/2 quart every 1k miles with mobil1 10w-30. I switched to 0w-30 German castrol and it solved that issue pretty much.

I've been running Mobil1 since my car was brand new. It's got about 70K on the clock now. The consumption varies, but it's always been no more than 1 quart per 3K with aggresive driving.

Oil burning is apparently common with these cars. Mine burns almost none though and I run Mobile1 5W30. Maybe I just don't drive it as hard as you guys do.

Oil consumption is a common issue with the LS1, and it has been discussed in great detail. Some other oils seem to do better with oil consumption, and catch cans can help as well. Try a search (if it is working) and you will be amazed at how many posts you will find.

I burn oil like a ****. No leaks though (which is very good). I end up going through a quart every 2500 miles (and then it's time for an oil change).

Every engine burns some oil. If the engine isn't burning any oil, it ain't workin' right But that being said, the LS1 is norotious for burning way more oil than the average engine.

There are all kinds of ways you can improve this, from getting a redesigned PCV valve to adding a catch can to converting to the LS6 PCV system to getting rid of the PCV system entirely, but nothing is a guaranteed fix to the extrordinary oil burning characteristics of the LS1.

One of the best things you can do to combat oil consumption is to NOT RUN A MOBIL 1 30 WEIGHT. Mobil 1 10W-30 and 5W-30 are NOROTIOUS for being easily consumed. Why? They're both pure, overpriced junk. And to let you know, Mobil 1 10W-30 is thinner than Mobil 1 5W-30

Switching to a thick oil isn't necessarily going to help, either. I typically run GC 0W-30, and I burn a little bit of oil, but nothing crazy. However, I tried swapping to Mobil 1 5W-40 for one oil cycle. I burned so much of it, the LOW OIL light came on within 4,000 miles. That's a quart of oil burnt in 4,000 miles with a 40W Mobil 1, which are considerably better than the 30 weights Mobil 1 makes. In 5,000 miles, I don't burn enough GC for the LOW OIL light to come on.

My method is to fill up with 5.5 quarts of GC 0W-30, keep the half a quart lying around and I usually wind up adding it at around the 4,000 mile mark. GC 0W-30 is extremely resistent to shearing/thermal breakdown, and I'm VERY confident if you make the switch, you will consume a lot less oil. On GC, my engine is the quietest it's ever been and only burns around a half quart in 5,000 miles, nothing major at all.

I checked mine yesterday. 2000 miles on my last oil change and it's still a little over full. I am using 10w30 Mobil 1. It has 50psi of oil pressure at idle and almost 80 at WOT.
