Default DIRTY throttle body?? Oil?

Hey guys-

I just pulled my throttle body off in anticipation of porting it..

Anyway, I am just looking at this joker and the back of the thing is coated in like burnt oil..

Is this normal? What is causing this?

Here is a pic.

its oil that gets by our pcv system and puts it into the intake. you may wanna make sure your pcv valve is ok, and clean all that gunk off. WD40 works great

Would a catch can help in this situation if it was installed earlier in the life of the vehicle?

yes, it will catch a lot of the oil, but you will still get some. not nearly as much though

I'm about to put an LS6 intake on, I'll throw a new PCV valve then..
