best ory pipe on a 2000 Z28

best ory pipe on a 2000 Z28 I can't afford long tubes right now so I want to delete the cats. Which company makes the best flowing off road Y-pipe for the money? Do all Y-pipes sound the same? I have a Hooker cat back now but want more volume. Any suggestions appreciated.
Re: best ory pipe on a 2000 Z28 Most ypipes go in after the cats. Mufflex makes offroad pipes that bolt to the stock ypipe and exhaust manifolds. Mac makes a ypipe that replaces the cats and the stock ypipe.
The mac ypipe would probably be your best bet. Its 2.5" mandrel bent. Its weakness is the collector. Its only 2.75" instead of the 3" they advertise. You could replace the collector with the flowmaster y collector that is a true 2.5" in and 3" out.
This could end up getting too expensive. If you know a good exhaust shop that can do 2.5" mandrel bends they could probably make you a ypipe with the flowmaster y cheaper.
Also you could port match the exhaust manifold to the ypipe. The manifold matches the cat pipes 2.25" diameter. Opening it up a 1/4" should give you some power.

the one that bolts into stock setup. I have a pair
of these off-road tubes that replace the cats, so
it will be a bolt-on, bolt-on "stack". The tubes
look like they're fine for flow, only you don't
get the same tuned scavenging as you would with
headers, just simple backpressure reduction. If
you are going to screw with the manifolds, the
big gain is liable to come from port-matching at
the head, where the stock manifold casting has a
heinous 1/4" lip intruding into the ports. It's
an easy hog-out with a good carbide burr but you
will be getting close to too thin on the casting
if you aren't careful. I did a set of '02s for my
'02 but haven't swapped the originals off yet....
