'00 SS Cold Air Intake ?s
I have a stock 2000 Camaro SS, and I'm thinking about a cold air intake. Is a cold air intake the best bet for me, or just an SLP lid? I've read thoughts that the SLP cold air intake will pretty much disable my ram air hood? Or, would the K&N cold air intake work best?
Thanks for your thoughts,
Brad

I think the K&N (FLIP ?) kit would work great with your functioning SS hood. You should try to do your exhaust at that time too. They work great together. Don't forget about the free mods you could do too. That's another 8-10 horses. The list is endless....

Well there's five of them. No joke. You could do a search on here, on this section. There was a write up on GM HighPerformance too. I did four of the five. I can think of three : EGR tube that goes into the intake, coolant bypassing the throttle, and the plastic underneath the air filter.

Personally, I did the SLP lid/K&N Filter/Smooth Bellows and a tune and I put down a solid 340rwhp/362rwtq. Before the tune I put down 325/330, unfortuantly I didnt dyno before the lid, so I have no idea on the improvement over stock, but the lid did help a lot with my final numbers. Those numbers are SAE corrected/Smoothing 5 and on stock SS exhaust. The lid really makes the best numbers in my opinion, and I am very happy with the fit and finish of the SLP stuff... A bit pricey, but good stuff.

The rwhp gains are so small that I think you could go either way and be happy.

I don't think any cold air will help. You have a hood that gets air from out side and not from around the radiator. So I think the k&n intake would serve you better.

agree with FTRA and get a lid (any brand) and then get the fast toys ram air kit. It runs under the car and will help out up top. The SS ram air hood isnt much of a ram air system and doesnt really do much till about 90mph+ so you would function more from a kit that runs under the car. Love it on my car and havent had any problems and its not that pricey either for the kit and a lid.

Sorry folks for raising this old thread from the dead (I do try to use the search function after all, lol). I am looking to port/polish my TB and to get something else for the intake. Basically, I found a local guy who can tune my car and I want to do some induction upgrades before I do the tune so it does not run lean or anything crazy. Later on I plan on getting an SS hood but I have decided to get a CAI type system rather than making the SS hood functional. Hopefully this is the better path. I already have an SLP airlid. Will this hamper an CAI upgrade like say the FTRA? Or will it complement it? Or should I get the SLP CAI package that does not include the SLP airlid since I already have that. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
