QTP are better than Kooks. Kooks are just over priced Hookers.

Kooks are excellent headers. Quality and customer service are two strong points that excell Kooks over many, if not all, LS1 header manufacturers. My cousin has hookers on his SS and I have a set of kooks on my Z28. Both are 01's and with same bolt ons, and trust me, you get what u pay for!

They come Stainless by default. If u add the coating it goes over the stainless.
Not a true statement. When I spoke to Nick at Kook's a few months ago he quoted me a price for headers - $589, when I asked if they were stainless he told me to add $245 to upgrade to stainless. You might want to call Kook's to verify what you have, if it matters to you.

Have you ever even see a set of Kooks? If Kooks are just overpriced Hookers then so are QTPs. Go to More Performance (they sell cooks and have pictures) and QTP and compare the type of material, bends, length and flange thickness of the Kooks and QTPs. You will find they are virtually identical. So what then makes QTPs so great of Kooks not?

Don't waste your breath on him!

Kook's don't come default as SS! You have to specify SS and it's a $275 option on top of the regular $589 for the headers and Coated is $250 option.

Kooks, QTP, PPC...After looking around some more I think the Bassani mid-lengths are the ticket for me. Now they just have to go on sale.

OK, for the sake of argument I'll tell ya what I did.

I had FLP's for 3 years, and just switched to Stainless Works headers.

Much better header.

I was WRONG. SS is an option, but if u get them coated they are Mild steel. I can tell u that they ARE COATED INSIDE & OUT! Here is what I GOT OFFICIALLY!! Kooks 1 7/8 Mild Steel Headers with welded collectors. They are coated inside & out, and I got a Mild steel Y Pipe with No cats. I paid CASH cause its King and shipped to NJ it was 1K. I am sure I will be VERY HAPPY with my Glorified Hookers.

The stepped are actually MORE than the staright 1 7/8. I guess it is easier not to adjust the size of the primary. Good Luck.

The Kook 's are a Grott style header. the Grott designed is flawed in several areas. QTP has made the changes needed to the Grott style. QTP's a SS and the have the best Y pipe with or with out cats. Kooks are not exactly like QTP's and if you don't believe me why don't you go to the QTP web site. Then give them a call. Your killing me with your overwhelming ignorance.

First, QTP is also a Grott style header. Second, ignorance would be having such a strong opinion (positive or negative) on something you haven't seen in person, don't own and don't have dyno numbers to back it up. By the way, I have spoken to both Berry at QTP and Nick at Kooks and both say they have made improvements to the Grott design. Now if you can give me back to back dynos where QTP headers make 20 more HP then Kooks, feel free to say Kooks suck compared to QTPs!

Just curious, what headers are you running?

I have never installed QTPs so I can't say much there. I have seen where some shops say that Kooks are about the easiest to install and that they slip right in. My install wasn't that painless. I found that once I undid the engine mounts on the driver’s side so I could raise the engine up a little it was pretty easy. I used a small hammer to bend a little sheet metal where the flange was getting stuck and then just pushed hard and it went right in. I was happy because I didn't need to remove the steering knuckle or do any type of grinding. The passenger side went in like butter. I know some headers require the starter to be removed but I didn't have to touch it. One thing I have to rave about in regards to Kooks is the end bolt holes on their flanges. Unlike most headers, Kooks end holes are open at the ends so you can install the stud at the back of the engine with the gasket on it, and then just slide the header onto the stud. Then you just move the front of the header up or down while the rear pivots on the stud. That makes aligning the gasket and getting another bolt threaded very simple. I have heard horror stories how hard it is to get the header, gasket and hole all lined up and bolted on and this makes is simple. I did it myself without any help. That is probably more then you wanted to know.

If they would have come with directions, it would have been very simple. I had to experiment to see what worked and that took time.

i think QTP is better, i have deliberated long and hard about what i would like to buy, and i went with QTP.. you may go with kooks, but from what i have heard after talking to both guys, i belive QTP to be better. And i got my QTP headers for like 700 shipped. for Stainless steel kooks, it was going to be a bit more..
