I've had borla for three years and have been running open plate ever since. Even now that I have headers its awesome. I've got a catted y though which helps but my exhaust is actually not loud enough for my tastes. The only thing you need to do to eliminate that rasp is just push the pedal down a little bit further!! 
But like stated earlier in the thread, just get a e-cutout and be done with it.

I started with the open plate and have worked my way down to the smallest plate. The rasp is not as bad,and still sounds great at wot. I may try and experiment with a custom size plate that is smaller and hear what it sounds like. The closed plate was to quiet for me.
