Default ASP PULLEY INSTALLATION ?'S

Don't laugh...but I would like to know how to install the pulley on the crank? Do I use a special press machine or can I simply do what the rest of you guys are doing and press it on using the crank bolt? I was told that the latter was impossible to do. Is this true? I've done it like this before...was I dreaming?

I pressed mine on with the old crank bolt but, now that I know it's impossible I won't try that again.

I used my old bolt to set the pulley, then removed it and installed a new bolt. worked great

Stock pulley can't be put on with the stock bolt (too short) but the ASP's go on just fine with it.

But, if you were told it's impossible, I better get to work on my next miracle.

I, too, was able to seat the ASP pulley on with the original bolt. Then I removed it and retorqued it with the new one. I've put about 800 miles on the car since then and I haven't had any problems with it.

i take a rubber mallet and hit the ends of the pully in a cross pattern untill I can get about 3-4 turns with the bolt and then I use an impact gun. Worked perfect and only took 10 min from start to finish

You can buy a longer bolt to get it started. You'll only have a few threads into the crank snout initally if you use the stock bolt. The stock bolt is 103mm. I bought a 120X16X2mm at a marine supply store. It's stainless. The extra 17mm gave me enough purchase that it was no longer a concern. The crank/pulley relationship is an interference fit altho the inside diameter of the pulley has a couple of thousandths machined away where the pulley interfaces to the crank snout to help the pulley works its' way onto the crank. If it doesn't feel right as you begin to apply torque STOP, rather than applying more force and causing damage as some installers have done.

Ok..I just wanted to verify that I wasn't losing my mind or something. I've installed my asp pulley without HAMMERING on anything! Anyway, I guess I've proved my point for that last time. :p

i have some questions about the removal i noticed theres not much room to work with. is there any way to make dissasembly easier? i spnet three hours tring to take the crank pully off and it wouldnt work either no room or the crank pully i was using wouldnt fit on there right.

You must have been putting it on wrong, or were using the wrong type of puller. This isn't my car, but the puller I rented from Auto Zone looked the same and worked the same way.

When I was removing my stock pulley I used an socket extension I think it was 3/4 ths and about 6 inches long to get the pulley off the rest of the way without prying, the extension slips right in the bolt hole and you can use it like the stock bolt as a platform for the puller.

I took some pictures and did a little write up of when I did my pulley install. It shows pictures of how the puller is supposed to be hooked up. Here is the post.
