What does a Cam do for you?
#2
just putting a cam on your car isnt going to do much lol
a cam is a part inside your engine, it runs off the crankshaft via a timing chain and operates your valves.

Start by reading this, and the camshaft is internal, not external btw

LOL, comming from a neewbie. (don't take the above advice)
Tell this too all the cam only guys making 400 RWHP.
Generally if you add just a cam you also at least need to add some better valvesprings for the higher lift on the aftermarket cam. Of coarse you'll see better gains if you also add all the extras like full exhaust & heads for example.
Goin cam only is a route alot of members take & then add heads later since they cost a good bit more than just a cam swap. There are several cams considered reverse splt that are designed to work with a stock head set-up also.

I think you missed his sarcasm....there was a subtle joke about setting a cam on top of the car not helping because it has to be installed......get it.....its funny

I know I can't put it on myself because I dont' even know what it looks like. HOw much do they cost? I don't know anything about cams but I know they make it sound choppyer and thats what I want to do.

Well more than sound, it has a dramatic increase in HP. The cam is like the "brain" of the engine, controlling the valves for when air, gas and exhaust all enter/exit the engine. They usually cost around 350-600 dollars, all depending on which kind you get.
Before you do a cam, i would suggest longtube headers and full exhaust. it would greatly enhance the gain from your cam. Also, start researching..

WhiteKnight, don't stress my friedn, about 5 years ago I was wondering the same things. A month ago I just installed my first cam. Read the stickys and take your time to learn about the car and what things do what so you get the parts you need to achieve your desired results. It's all good!
