Default PCV routed into the exhaust?

Anyone ever done this? I'm told its common on race cars which can't run vacuum pumps, because the perpendicular flow of exhaust gases (relative to the PCV line) creates a bit of suction on the crankcase.

It seems like an easy thing for us to do because of the AIR brackets on our headers. I'm running a full exhaust (cat-less with Z06 mufflers), so I'm wondering if it is really a good idea on cars that might have some exhaust back pressure (although I really have no idea what sort of positive pressure the crankcase sees).

Thanks for any help.

Well putting oil vapor or oil in the exhaust could be a very bad idea= big flame.

Don't know if they do this or not, but I wouldn't reccomend it.

I don't know if it would be a good idea, since I'd imagine it would foul out o2's pretty quickly.

I have heard of the high HP supra guys running a setup similar to that, I have seen a kit for sale in jegs that looked like it had all the fittings to make this work on a V8.

You wouldn't be able to use the AIR fittings to do it though, the line would have to be run to the header collector for it to pull enough vacuum to make a functioning pcv.

Next time you go to the drag strip look at most any gas or alcohol dragster (they're the easiest to see since the headers are openly visible)....they run from a breather in both valve covers to the header collectors, in most cases.

BTW, probably not a good idea for a street car....I believe this only works when running open headers. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Many race only cars run a pan evacuation system whch dumps the blow by into the header collector through a one way valve.
This system works well the open headers and an engine that runs WOT with a high velocity exhaust.
It will not work on the street.

yep, not to mention it will trash your O2s and your mufflers will be filled with sludge in time and your exhaust will look like you have a blown head gasket/shitty valve seals/shitty piston rings etc.....

The above is correct. It's intended to go into the collector of a race header. It would have to be located after the 02 bung, and probably be a bad idea to have a muffler behind it. Street vehicles would probably just fill up with the oil/sludge and make a nice smokey show everytime you start it in the morning.

Works for drag cars, not for your LS1 street car
