sounds like fuel pump to me.
no starts on the 1st attempt after it has sat for just a little while is a symptom of a bad fuel pump. this is because it bleeds off all pressure in the fuel lines. this causes hard starts like you describe. i cant remember what its called (plunger maybe?) but there is something in the pump that goes bad causing this issue.
a good "up to par" fuel pump should hold pressure for a long time. it should only bleed off 1 or 2 psi over a matter of hours.
check fuel pressure at the schrader valve on the fuel rail.
also try priming the fuel lines, just turn the key 2 or 3 times to the on position for a few seconds until you hear the pump stop each tim, then try cranking it. might fire up then at then point.

but i have to say the most common fuel issue with all 4th gens is the fuel pump itself! but only most common, not thee only.
but you can check the injectors by priming the fuel system (key on) while the fuel rails are unbolted and raised up out of the intake manifold, with the injectors still in the rails. just wait a few if they doesnt leak instantly.
