Screened MAF Sensor
Have read that it is not recommended to run a maf sensor without a screen if the car is to be driven daily on the street.
I hear a lot of people saying that they have removed the screen and have not had any problems.
I am want to purchase a used maf sensor, and need to understand if a de-screen maf sensor is OK, or should I wait for one with the screen. Can I get some recommendations?

LMAO. please explain how the lack of a screen causes the #8 piston to let go...maybe it was that extra .001 hp that he got from removing the screen... cmon.
ok that aside, its fine, as long as you dont mess with the bars/wires on the inside of the maf, if you do something to them in the process of removing the screen that's when you would run into a problem.
people who run n2o b4 the maf have to remove the screen anyways, and i don't think the delphi zo6 maf has a screen.
i have been driving my car for 2 - 3 years without a screen and no problems at all. just make sure the maf itself is sound and you wont have a problem either way.

100+cfm gain just with that alone.
from my observation on a stock engine the car goes noticably harder in cooler situations compared to before
but seems to run sluggier in hotter conditions then before!
maybe the sceen promotes some kinda cooling effect to the hotter air?
i'm inclined to run it descreened only in winter and use the screen in summer

Now with all that said, you will probably gain .5hp lol. But its free, so give it a shot!
the 85mm Delphi MAF used on the CTS-V (at least the '04/'05, that used the LS6) was definately screened. Didn't the early Z06's have a screen too?
I think the screen is there in the CTS-V, because it has the 90' bend going into the TB (like the GTO).

I agree, if you do it have your MAF tables modified. I was curious how much of a restriction the screen was so I collapsed the screen on itself without folding it. I ended up with a piece of roughly 10 square centimeters.
