i have always heard to use the factory header gaskets b/c they seal better and hold their seal longer.

NO...definitely go with the FELPRO blue set or something at least comparable in quality, costs about 35 bucks for the header gaskets and copper collector gaskets but worth every penny. The set they include are cheap and they will tell you the same thing. I installed my Jethot longtubes with the FELPRO and they are very durable and high quality compared to the replacements. I'd never recommend re-using a header gasket, wouldn't even do that a lawnmower.

to clarify I mean I would not reuse a header gasket that was "used" already. Using a "new" GM gasket is fine as well.

I just got my off road y pipe and it three large dents of bends on the top of the long ipipe. Can you check yours and see if your Y has similar dents.

Thanks,

Jon

nope, he made sure when he made it not to have them, it is spiced with two pieces and it's a smooth flowing transition into the Y The bends are something pretty common on custom Ypipes for some shops, some take a little longer and know better. truthfully how much flow effect is there with the bends...shrugs? who knows I just knew I didn't want them and he mentioned it before I said anything so I lucked out.

Umm, No offense, but have you ever put headers on a LS1? I doubt it by your response...

The exhaust gaskets are not like any other gaskets out there and can easily be reused. I bought an extra set of GM gaskets when I did my header install and didn't use them... ended up with a nice set to hang on wall.

Wrong again. The LS1 exhaust gaskets can be reused time and time again. No need to buy replacements.

Just to jump on the pile...Wilwaxu and the others are correct...you can reuse the GM/LS1 gaskets again and again. I've had my FLP's on and off of the SS so many times I lost count, and I've re-used the stock gaskets every single time. They still seal perfectly.

I just installed a set of Hookers on my Z28 this past weekend and used the Gaskets that Hooker provided..however I kept the Stock gaskets just in case the Hooker gaskets don't work out (so far they are fine)
